Not at all. That is how most recruitment agencies operate. They take 20% or 30% of your first month salary.

Note. The deduction is AFTER you are paid your first month salary. Some even insist on 20% for the first 3 months salary. It’s your call. If you seek my advise, I will say it’s not a big deal as long as you are ok with the job. That is where they make their own money from too

Usually, your employer will be notified and they (your employer) will deduct and pay to the agency.
