I don't think anyone that win presidential election in Nigeria can spend less than N36B even before primary election. Donations, media coverage, meeting with delegates and consultations with different groups & opinion leaders are not cheap. And these will go on steady for about a year before primary election.

Yes, the 100m and 40m is too much. But Mr Falana , I believe there are more than 50 political parties in nigeria. Must everybody contest under pdp and Apc?
Mr Falana politics involve spending huge amount of money.

All these people making noise about political parties' cost of form are ignorant of politics and need to know the outrageous cost of contesting elections in Nigeria.
I actively take part in electioneering and u can't win House of Rep with less than N300m in a competitive contest.
Serious Presidential candidate or party must spend not less than N1b in each state to win election.

In a sane society, what you are saying here is nonsense.

I Quite agree with you Mutumi na from Arewa-Northern NIGERIA.

Electoral Contest in Nigeria is very bogus and highly exorbitant as the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE POSITION you referred actually covers NOT LESS THAN 3 LGAs and so, One would always be required to campeign and fund everything relating to ALL THE POLITICAL WARDS in the said LGAs.

Bearing in mind that there is POVERTY IN THE LAND and most GRASSROOT POLITICIANS do see ELECTIONEERING PERIOD as a time to make Wealth for themselves and thus, always end up looting and embezzling your hard earned campeign money or Fund

I am From the south west NIGERIA by the way and pls watch out for me come 2031!

For that is the DESTINED Year for power (NIGERIAN PRESIDENCY) to return to the SOUTH and NOT 2023! INSHALLAH (God willing and By His Grace)

What difference would it make if the form is N100? Would that change the kleptomaniac nature of our greedy Polithiefcians?

Just like rejecting their money during elections. If we reject their money, would that stop them from stealing?

falana is talking like a kid. if the people in their infinite wisdom decide to choose one poor man with no moneybag as friends. I bet, not even a billion will stop that man. If 50 million people decide to support one poor man, even a donation of 10naira per person has surpass the 100 million with 400 million left. this is the thinking. start campaign early through deeds

There are 18 or so parties in Nigeria. What is Falana saying about discrimination? People are free to join other political platforms and pick much cheaper or completely free forms. There is a cap on how much a candidate can spend for elections. If that law hasn't been broken, what is the hullabaloo around this?

In a sane society, what you are saying here is nonsense.

Do u really know the cost of TV adverts in the so called saner society?
You will be surprised by the cost of TV, online and propaganda firms campaign in those Nations. Democracy is the most expensive form of Govt in the world!
The only difference between us, is the possibility of rich people and political parties to fund the campaign of poor candidate with capacity and competence to win election which is highly unlikely to happen here.

How you don't see the irony and contradiction in your comment beats me.

I'm just saying facts irrespective of the circumstances surrounding the approach.
We advocated for return to democracy, believe it is the best form of Govt despite knowing how expensive it is. Democracy is very expensive world wide.

The money spent is much moe than that. Pls watch out the coming primary elections of APC and PDP keeny and see the outrageous amount they will spend.
They'll hire private jets to take delegates to Abuja from their respective states, pay their hotels and welfare and bribe them with huge sum of money to convince them to vote them.
Democracy doesn't favour Nigerian masses at all and encourages so much corruption.
