I am not too sure Matip will have made a difference last night.
Konate played very, very well and won most of his tackles.
The goal came typically from a Trent loss of focus for a split second. The shot was taken from far wider than where Konate should be and even Matip should not be found there when that ball came over to Vini.

The loss was just down to tactical errors.
Since Real conceded all those match goals against PSG, Chelsea and even City, Klopp thought he could easily outscore them in a game without a 'return leg'.

But the saying that 'defences win trophies' came to the fore. And this truism holds for those who have been in the business long enough.... longer than Klopp and the experience of the old, wily Ancelotti clearly showed yesterday.

Those guys work too hard for the team, and cover far too much ground as forwards while the present midfield hardly makes any forward runs or passes, always side to side and expecting the forwards to run to the box and through a hailstorm of defenders. You do that for 60 matches and your gasket blows, simple.... Van Nistelrooy will never accept that nonsense.

Sorry about the word "Replacement " I ment an assistant like Timiska... someone to give Arnold some rest... we can't depend on gomez to be an assistant to Arnold for this coming season... a better full-time right back is needed on bench....

Militao does it whenever carvajal overlaps. Kanote did same many times whenever Arnold has gone awol ! But for that particular goal, Arnold was available but switched off completely.
