An analysis of public genome sequence data for SARS-CoV-2 and related viruses found no evidence that the virus was manufactured or otherwise engineered in a laboratory. "By comparing the available genome sequence data for known strains of coronaviruses, we can firmly establish that SARS-CoV-2 originated from a natural process," said Kristian Scripps, associate professor of immunology and microbiology at Scripps Research and corresponding author of the paper.
