IBOM3000 PROJECT, 2021 Trainees in Akwa Ibom State lament over being deceived to shut down businesses, abandon their academic pursuit for an empowerment training organized by Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Trade and Investment, Uyo....

1000 Youths drawn from the 31 LGAs of Akwa Ibom were trained on Oil and Gas related Courses, SME, Agriculture and ICT by the State Ministry of Trade and Investment, Uyo. The Ministry of Trade and Investment had promised the trainees Certifications upon completion of the programme, subsequent engagement and business start-up. At the end of the programme, Oil and Gas trainees were relocated from the Training Camp at Godswill Akpabio Oil and Gas Training Centre, Nya Diong in Mkpat Enin LGA and dumped at the State Secretariat Complex Uyo without transportation to return to their various LGAs.

After series of request by the trainees to be certified and engaged, the former Commissioner of the Ministry, Barr. Prince Akpabio set up a Graduation Planning Committee headed by Mr. Ibanga Essien, and graduation date fixed for 8th April 2022 at Ibom Hall, Uyo by 10am. On the said graduation day, Trainees turned up with friends and families to share in their joy only to meet the gate of the venue locked. They were duly informed by the security personnel on duty that there was no information of such from their head. Angered by the unfortunate information, trainees matched to the Ministry of Trade and Investment Building located at the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, IBB Avenue and met with the new Commissioner, Engr. Camillus Essien Umoh who apologized for the misinformation and promised to give a new date on or before 20th April 2022 but hitherto no information has come from the Ministry. All efforts to reach the Commissioner prove abortive, the Permanent Secretary and the Chairman Planning Committee have also refused to respond on the way forward instead they gave restricting orders and telling the trainees through their office assistants that they are not on seat. They don't reply messages neither return their calls.

We hereby request the Commissioner of Trade and Investment Uyo, Engr. Camillus Essien Umoh to issue our Certificates, Engage and Empower us as promised.

It is worthy of note that many had closed their businesses, missed academic activities, lost their jobs (as the result) to attend the programme only to be dumped at the end. The youth of Akwa Ibom State do not deserve this type of maltreatment from the government they support passionately. Hence, we appeal to the State Government to consider the position of its integrity and do the needful so as to restore the image of a PROMISE KEEPER of His Excellency.
