I have a friend who's dad was a former controller of prison, when his dad was in service and for the past 25+yrs we've been friends they've never bought any food ingredients in their house even salt they've never bought before.
Any food ingredients you can mention they have it in stock, my friend sometimes ask me to look for buyer for rice in bags, turkey oil in gallons, seasonings (Maggi) in cartons,beans in bags,red oil in gallons, bathing soap in cartons, everything even frozen fish, chicken,beef.
I'm feeling guilty now sef because when i say we sold believe me we sold.
And this sales didn't just happened once, it was a continuous process like twice a month, we make sales till it get to a point my friend started feeling guilty, he then told me that he feels pain for inmate because if his dad could be bringing all this food ingredients home, how many will be left for inmate and besides it's not his father alone, other warders do same thing.
It was through him i knew that FG supplies one bag of rice to one inmate monthly.
I swear i feel for prisoners in nigeria.

People in Nigerian prisons go through hell, such that when they're released, they become more hardened criminals

True, their are many people who are not in prison that have worst situation compared to those prisoners in Nigeria.

. The corruption in the land is alarming! When the government releases 1000 for a daily meal before it gets to a prison all the heads in various departments must have taken thier shares from the money. So a prisoner will be left with 200 daily. There is nothing like freedom. This has been a problem in Nigeria for many years. A government that cannot cater for the freed citizens won't do anything for the detained or incarcerated citizens.

All I can say is that it is well...I only pity for the innocent ones that were wrongfully charged with one crime or the other...

The question is did federal government release this fund to prison authority or only made d on paper?. Before we blame prison authority , we should find out whether government or prison should b blame

Prison for Nigeria na business ooo. Anything u want to do na money. To bring foodstuff inside na money. Ordinary stove and pot u pay to get it in. Just try and visit any of d correctional Centre in Lagos, u will understand better.
From dcp to, Chief and welfare officer. Everyone there is corrupt

Corruption will not let the people in charge give them good food, half bag of rice or beans etc. for the inmates and full bags for the families of the corrupt people in charge.
