Astrophotography is a combination of photography and amateur astronomy dedicated to capturing images of celestial bodies of all kinds, from stars and planets to comets and asteroids. Astrophotography has a number of advantages over direct observation of the sky, since the use of cameras and different techniques allows much more concise and defined images to be obtained than those that can be achieved with simple direct observation. In this sense, it is important to understand that these are images with much greater precision and that, in addition, the use of cameras allows the capture of radiation outside the visible light spectrum. (The one that the human eye perceives with the naked eye). This makes it possible to obtain well-defined photographs using other types of light, such as infrared and ultraviolet, which allows certain aspects of space objects to be observed that would go completely unnoticed if observed with the naked eye.

Agnes My Universe is inspired by imaging of the cosmos and what the artist perceives and creates alongside the dynamic images of the night sky and space by making beautiful astrophotography paintings.

Taking an image of an object in space, whether with a point-and-shoot camera, the Hubble Space Telescope, or any other form of camera, is known as astrophotography. Anything from the moon to the Milky Way can be used as a topic.

The first astrophotography ever taken in North America was John William Draper's daguerreotype of the moon in 1840.

Cameras play a fundamental role in astronomy and astrophotography. The human being will never be able to capture with the naked eye, what the cameras achieve with one or several long exposure photographs, especially if we are talking about objects as faint as nebulae, galaxies or stars hundreds, thousands, or millions of light years away. .

To achieve images like this, we must capture and process photons of light, which took hundreds, thousands or millions of years to reach us.
Their journey at 300,000 kilometers per second (equivalent to 7 times around the Earth per second!), ends up in the sensor of our cameras, where they are finally converted into pixels.

It is incredible to think that these photons go through all of human history or more, to finally be the ones who collect them in our cameras. We live in a privileged technological moment!!

Importance of astrophotography

Through astrophotography, findings and discoveries have been made through this type of photography that allow us to appreciate details that are not possible with the naked eye. At a professional and scientific level, astrophotography has made significant contributions to humanity, it has allowed us to appreciate from the moon, planets and the largest star to be suitable for the human eye.

Although astronomical photography is done through professional or high-end telescopes, there are groups of amateur astrophotography’s who go around the world taking pictures of the universe and the stars from different points of view, in many cases these astronomical photographs have worked to conduct more in-depth studies.

Astrophotography for amateurs will be able to offer night images of starry skies, the different phases of the moon, sunsets with the sun very well defined.
