How do U define literacy?
Is commonly defined as the ability to read/read. When Nigeria got he independence in 1960 average Northerners were literate. You people are so myopic, mentally inferior to think those who speak or write English are literate.
Can't U remember that Northerners and Yoruba Muslims used to read and write and exchange correspondences using Ajami (Arabic letters) for more than 400yrs.

Well there was not much use and application of crammed Islamic scribbles when agitating for independence in a post WW2 world .

The fact remains that it was western educated southerners who were all Christians and traditionalists that fought the British with their pens to have this independent nation.
