Engr Osasere Favour Osifo, on Tuesday, 28th June, 2022 paid a condolence visit to the Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, Professor Lilian Salami, over the demise of her predecessor, Emeritus Professor Osayuki Godwin Oshodin.

The Vice President, University of Benin Alumni Association North America (UBAANA) chapter, was received on the visit by the University’s Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Maureen Ebomoyi, and members of the UNIBEN Management team.

Osifo, on behalf of UBAANA and its President, Alex Eromwon, condoled with the University Management over the ex-VC’s passing, describing his demise as a great loss to UBAANA, as the deceased was a “golden jewel” to the Alumni body.

He extolled the late Oshodin’s virtues as a “transformational VC” and “father to all”, who transformed the fortunes of the University, adding, “the Alumni body recognises and know what the ex-VC stood for while alive.”

The UNIBEN former Students’ Union President, during the Oshodin’s Administration, also lauded Prof. Salami’s developmental strides at the University of Benin, particularly the beautification project and infrastructures.

During the visit, Engr Osifo signed the Condolence Register, where the UNIBEN VC intimated the UBAANA VP of plans by Management to organise a proper commendation service in honour of Oshodin and immortalise the first indigenous VC.

Professor Salami, who lauded UBAANA for the support towards her Administration, also thanked the Alumni body for sending a delegation to physically identify and comisserate with the University Community over the ex-VC’s passing.

Earlier on Monday, Engr Osifo paid an unscheduled visit to the site of UBAANA’s project, a Students’ Relaxation Centre at the Ekehuan Campus of the University, where he commended the work done so far.

He lauded the UBAANA President, Alex Eromwon for making the project a success, wile commending the President Foster Amadin led Students’ Union for its partnership and efforts in attracting the students-oriented project.

The engagements of Osifo, who is currently in Nigeria for the funeral of his late father Deacon Sunday Osifo, came to a climax on Tuesday with a meeting with the Students’ Union leaders at the popular June 12 Secretariat, where the ex-Union President was mobbed by his long-time supporters; as chants of “Presido, Presido” rented the air.
