i dont know why i am posting cos, i dont even watch N/W.
I'm a H/Wood fan and even then i dont always go for known names.
i watch films that won or were nominated for oscars or other prizes or
that received good reviews or recommended by pals.
that said if there are no known faces that you need a good story line and great mkting.

It might sell, but not that much! I remember a movie vendor recommended a
film for me, but I passed because there were no familiar faces. Later, I read reviews on the net, that the movie was really good.

good question, I think Nollywood fans like having a face they can Identify with, like a star from previous movies because they like their acting or looks, needless to say, it may sell, but only if it is marketed well or if there is a popular face in a cameo role but if the movie is blockbuster,it should sell regardless,
