In Yoruba Land, the Palace of Traditional Ruler is a SACRED Place, an attack or insult on whoever (even goats, Dogs etc) within the radius of the Palace is deemed to have been a direct attack or insult on King/Kabiyeesi himself.

So therefore, hoodlums on the instructions of Oyetola/Osun APC Leaders carried out an attack on Baba Ataoja of Osogbo in his palace today.

Political thugs, cult groups, inducement threaten Osun guber election – Report

Nearly two weeks before the gubernatorial election in Osun State, an alarm has been raised over the possibility of thug violence that would seize the peace of electoral activities.

Activities of cultists and hoodlums are gradually becoming a recurrence in the Osun pre-election environment ahead of the election, Yiaga Africa, a civic hub revealed in a report issued on Tuesday.

“This pre-election observation period still reveals activities of hoodlums and cultists in the state with the recent critical incident being the disruption of PVC collection in Ilesa Local Government Area of the state.

“Reports of activities of cultists and hoodlums are gradually becoming a recurrence in the Osun pre-election environment ahead of the election,” the report made available to DAILY POST stated.

The Yiaga Africa’s Pre-Election Observation (PREO) report captures the activities of the key election stakeholders: INEC, Political parties, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and the National Orientation Agency (NOA), as well as indicators of electoral violence from a period of May 26 and June 16.

The organization said it received reports of voter inducement by political parties in four local government areas in Osun.

“In particular, WTV received reports from Iwara ward 1 in Atakumosa East where PDP supporters were seen distributing money to citizens to travel to the INEC office at the local government headquarters to collect their PVCs, this is intended to get the citizens to vote for the PDP on the election day.

“Additionally, WTV LTO reported the distribution of gifts in the form of food items by the APC and PDP supporters

around the Odo-Otin local government. The distribution of bread and garri during the PDP campaign as well as the distribution of beans during an APC campaign rally. Both incidents took place in Ekosin-Inisa in the LGA of Odo-Otin.”

Yiaga Africa said it deployed 31 long-term citizen observers (LTOs) and deployed them across the 30 LGAs of Osun State to systematically observe the pre-election environment in their various local governments.

The report called on political parties and candidates to conduct issue-based campaigns rather than engage in voter inducement, and recruitment of thugs and cultists for violence.

Stating its recommendation in the report, Yiaga Africa said security agencies should ensure the arrest and prosecution of all involved in any form of violence in the days leading to the election.

It also asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to consistently provide updates on the number of PVCs collected ahead of the state election.

STOP THREATENING TRADITIONAL RULERS WITH DETHRONEMENT, OSUN PDP WARNS OYETOLA

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state has flayed Governor Gboyega Oyetola for using coercion and threat of dethronement against traditional rulers in a bid to force endorsement for his doomed re-election bid.

In a statement issued by the party following violent attacks at the palace of the paramount ruler of Osogbo, the PDP described as reprehensible such display of thuggery and violence unleashed in a bid to stop the PDP candidate from visiting the traditional ruler.

The Governor and his agents have been attacking PDP members and bill boards. We did not retaliate because of our commitment to peaceful election. We have alerted security agencies on this ugly trend as we seek that the police should be neutral and supportive of law and order during rhis election.

The APC has moved from attacking PDP members and bill boards to this unwarranted attacks on the palace of the revered monarch which is a sacrilegious intrusion by Oyetola's men, an insult on the entire people of Osogbo and a gross disrespect for traditional institutions and values of Yorubaland.

Instead of apologising to the traditional ruler for his orchestrated assault on ¥sogbo traditional institutions, the Governor's henchmen have been threatening fire and brimstone with some of them calling for dethronement of the the traditional ruler. This is simply an abuse of power and further testimony of the low status Oyetola accords traditional rulers in his government.

As we warn against any move to punish any traditional ruler who decided to stay as father of all irrespective of political affiliation, we commend our courageous traditional rulers across the state for standing for truth and well being of their people.

Whilst we mock the desperation of Oyetola for another term in office, we must remind him that traditional institution is too important to be dragged into the shameful push for power. Traditional rulers have a duty to all subjects, and it is desperation taken too far to threaten them with deposition for maintaining neutrality in a political contest. Being in power is no license to make reckless and outrageous demands, most especially on traditional rulers who have a role to be father of all, irrespective of partisan learning or status.

Governor Oyetola and his agents should know that power is transient and as such, they should stop arm-twisting traditional rulers to adopt Oyetola in an election that the Governor is destined to lose.

If Oyetola believe his performance justifies another term in office, we urge him to face the electorate and not pressure traditional rulers as we are seeing lately. We want to warn that this undemocratic move is not be acceptable to Osun people and we hope Governor Oyetola will realize that the cost of rubbishing age-long traditional institution for a temporary office will be too weighty and worse, hard to repair.

As a party, we want to state our support for the position of Ataoja of Osogbo against violence before, during, and after the July 16 governorship election. For emphasis, our party is committed to peace, and believe the revered traditional ruler was in order in preaching against violence in the election. Only a party that plans to deploy violence in the upcoming governorship election will be uncomfortable with Ataoja's message.

Therefore, we will not tolerate any form of witchhunt of the Ataoja, or any monarch in Osun state, for that matter, for simply canvassing against violence in the election. Just as we have always promoted, the decision on who leads rest solely on electorates, and whoever seek office should go to them, not threatening traditional rulers.

Signed:
Dr. Akindele Adekunle,
Chairman CTC,
Peoples Democratic Party,
Osun State Chapter.

Expect this sort of violent behavior in forth coming presidential election, when the opolo eye criminal will unleash his thugs on intimidate harmless and innocent voters who are simply queing up to perform their civic duty and elect a leadership that would help to ameliorate the sufferings they're going through.
This is war! While the thief jagabi would deploy all means necessary to rig his way to the cookie jar, we should be ready to defend our votes by all means.
Those that make peaceful transition impossible, invariably make violent revolution inevitable.
