Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo has given reason why a church belonging to popular prophet, Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, known as Odumeje, was demolished.

A statement issued by Soludo’s spokesman, Christian Aburime on Thursday said the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention Deliverance Ministries, owned by Odumeje was an illegal structure.

He said Odumeje was served demolition notice since April and that he did not vacate the structure.

“Following the expiration of the more than two months notice beginning from April 2022 served on developers and building owners who built several illegal structures along the waterway in Fegge and environs within Onitsha, Anambra state government has begun demolition of such structures.

“The exercise which is being carried out by a joint government task force, commenced the exercise from Bida Road by Modebe Avenue, Fegge Onitsha.

“The affected buildings include Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention Deliverance Ministries, shops and other perimeter fences.

“The structures were marked since April, 2022 and all developers and building owners were served notice to remove such illegal structures,” he said.

Odumeje’s church was demolished on Thursday by a joint government taskforce.

Sometimes I wish instead of demolishing 'illegal' structures, government should convert them to some other uses.

Imagine if that was an El Rufai or Sanwo Olu government... Would you justify the demolition and attack on Odumeje so well? This is why people prefer to do their business outside southeast.

Henix:

His church building is blocking waterways, which thereby causes flooding in that part of Onitsha whenever it rains. We can't continue living like animals in this country

uniquetechng:
Do you know Lagos state government demolish buildings daily without compensation and nobody make noice about such demolition, why do you all turn every into tribal rumble ?

Chigold101:

So we should allow people to build indiscriminately and block water ways?
When something is illegal it's illegal.

Probably you don't know, Onitsha has over 20 well structured markets.
Ndị Igbo naturally are travellers that's why they travel to make money.

Fcwilly:

The way you reason is the reason Nigeria is remaining where it is today, you are reasoning backward.

Hypocrites of the highest order... My question is El Rufai demolished building on to similar reasons why didn't you guys use this understand instead of shouting attack on Christianity and islamization?

Stop talking nonsense.
His church sits on a waterway. Check the videos of his beating today, look by the left and you will see that he built the church at the worst place possible. Demolishing that church is right! Beating him up while doing so, is wrong!

As much as I'm not a fan of odumeje, this was too harsh ..how can you give just two months notice to relocate a church? That's not fair at all.

But two months notice is short time to relocate a building. Even if it rent, landlord most give you six months notice. Talkless of removing a whole building. This is still wickedness. Lagos state is good at this kind of wickedness

.

Illegal structure is illegal by Law, no two ways about it,

How can you turn an illegal structure to useful structure, when it's on the right of way or drainages which may lead to future flooding, claiming lives&properties. Smh

I am not fan of Odumeje but to be honest government is doing right thing in the wrong manner. How can you give just two months notice to church that has established for years without making temporary arrangement choices for them first or pay them compensation first to show that government is responsible? The victims who are feeding through the church are not begging government for money or their upkeep, but yet government got mind of blowing off their sources of daily income without showing more care and compassion than just to issue enforcement order.

Soludo is enjoying free, steady huge monthly and daily income, but thinks life is easy for somebody you demolish his source of income before peaking up so fast again. He will certainly loose members due to distance or otherwise ; and starting all over to raise church and members after lots of wasted investment is never so easy practically than mere talks. Government should have shown more concern by offering them temporary locations of choice within the vicinity to use and issue them compensations agreed on time so they can purchase another land and begins building.

Soludo did not really plan this thing out very well with wisdom, two months is too short even landlord won't give you that kind of short notice.

If this had happened in Rivers State or any other place, they will be all over the place saying it's because of hatred and turning it to tribal or ethnic issue.

We're they compensated?
That property was bought with money and also developed with money and you feel you can just come and demolish without compensation.

What the taskforce did to him is totally wrong.
