In 1931, Japan desired to increase its empire and exploit its neighbours resources( China). They invaded the province of Manchurai and after they saw how much of a success it was, they decided to invade and exploit China in full scale. This move created a full blown war that left up to 20 to 50 million Chinese people dead.

The Japanese also invaded some parts of Asia, like Burma, Indochina, Malaysia, Phillipines and Dutch West Indies. They also murdered an additional 8 million.

Fate of women
The Japanese forced women into sexual slavery. They built about 2000 stations which they named ‘ Comfort Station' where they raped these women. These stations were all over Asia and housed over 200,000 thousand women. These women were nicknamed ‘The Comfort women'

The city of Nanjing was captured by the japanesein December 1937. They caused the highest bloodshed in the 20th century. The soldiers trooped on the streets and killed all the people they laid eyes on. More than 150,000 people were found buried in mass graves. Their hands tied behind their backs. 300,000 people were killed in 6 weeks.

Around 20,000 women were raped in Nanjing. Along the line, when the Chinese proved to be resist the Japanese, the War in Nanjing was replicated in the whole of China. It was a disaster, a rampaging genocide.

Prisoners of war
Japanese military chiefs who were defendants at the War Crimes Tribunals claimed that Japan was not bound by the 1929 Geneva Convention, because it signed but never ratified the law.

However Japan was bound by Fourth Hague Convention of 1907, which stated that prisoners of war remained “under the protection and principles of the laws, laws of humanity, and the dictate of public conscience.”
Japan coerced prisoners of war to undergo 130-mile death marches and forced labor. They were denied decent food, water and medical attention. They were decapitated, and used as marks for rifle and machine gun drill.

Cannibalism
Witnesses and official documents collaborated that the Japanese soldiers ate up their victims of war. Records also showed that Australian soldiers, and New Guinea civilians were devoured.
An American pilot gazed as the same end befell his fellow airman.
In reporting proof of the cannibalism, historian Toshiyuki Tanaka penned that cannibalism was not engaged in because supplies were scarce, that it was practiced and used as a power protection mechanism.

They killed prisoners and eat their flesh. According to Captain Pirzai an Indian officer eye witness. He said that the victims muscles, feet, arms laps were severed off and cooked
The Japanese also conducted experiments on Chinese and Russian prisoners of war.
They exposed them to syphilis and other deadly diseases. They extracted their organs and punctured holes in their heads.
They sprinkled them with salt water to elicit frostbite in subzero weather. All was done in the name of science and for the country.
Author of ‘Imperial Japan’s World War 2’ werner Gruhl says that the Japanese murdered approximately 250,000 Chinese by experimentation and biological warfare.

The legacy of Japan’s wartime atrocities
Japan’s murderous spree came to a halt when the United State dropped two atomic bombs on the soil of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August, 1945. The bombs annihilated at least a quarter of a million Japanese population. Japan relinquished unconditionally 9 days later.
