Tinubu And Shettima: Yorubas Have To Decide If They Want Ticket Or Presidency. by fuke(m): 7:34am On Jul 13, 2022
Professor Jibril Aminu, former education minister and cerebral alumnus of the University of Ibadan medical school, once stated, without apology, that he is first a Fulani, then a northerner, then a Nigerian, and finally a medical doctor.

I also affirm that I am foremost a Yoruba man, then a Nigerian, and finally a Christian. In the current situation, I would have preferred a Muslim-Christian ticket, but only if my religion comes before being a Yoruba man.

To be honest, choosing Shettima as Tinubu's VP reeks of insensitivity and anti-Christian sentiment, especially given that Muslims hold most important positions from the North, particularly the Fulanis, but sentiments do not win elections.

Furthermore, the only way to alleviate this marginalization is for another tribe to gain power, which he will not achieve if his political calculations are incorrect.

To make political calculations, let's go back a few weeks and review the APC convention and how Tinubu became the party's presidential candidate despite the fact that his Yoruba brothers and mentees sent him under the bus.

The Norther APC governors' unanimous agreement to cede the presidency to the South, and thus to Yorubas and Tinubu, was obviously a game changer. Tinubu's presidency would have died long ago without that support.

Isn't it reasonable to expect these northern governors to have a significant say in who becomes Vice President, and, to be honest, do we expect them to choose a Christian when they are all Muslims and their region is predominantly Muslim?

Some wonder if the North is devoid of capable Christians. Yes, but do they have the political clout to win elections? And in this game, winning is everything, but what you do with your victory is another story.

El-Rufai changed the template. Even though many have reservations about what Rufai has done with the victories in Kaduna, the results of the elections there have not been affected. It's all a numbers game.

Obasanjo and Jonathan, both Christians, ruled for approximately 14 years. What impact did this have on the economy and the average Nigerian? Osinbajo has been Vice President for eight years; what impact has he had on the country's religious crises? He only went to Owo to commiserate with Christians because he wanted to run for president. This is about who the person is, not where he worships.

By the way, when did religion become a factor in Yoruba electoral victories? According to the most recent count, there are four Christian-Christian tickets in the southwest, and the Muslims did not bring the walls down.

If Tinubu had chosen a Christian as his running mate, there would have been more outbursts of abuse and vulgar language than there are now. Many Northern Muslims would have resigned, as have some disgruntled Christians. I don't envy Tinubu in this, because even with Shettima, some Northern APC governors are unhappy, but a choice must be made, and we can't have two vice presidents.

Whatever decision he makes, he will make enemies, and the truth is that many of those abusing him are doing so to dispel religious sentiments against him, knowing he has made the politically correct decision.

The decision has been made; now let us see what the future holds.

But I have a message for the Yorubas. According to a friend, Baba Olu Falae once told him that the worst Yoruba man will serve Yoruba interests better than the best from anywhere else. Yorubas will have to decide whether they want the ticket or the presidency. They will decide whether an Atiku or Obi is better suited to their needs than Tinubu.

You can delude yourselves by claiming political sophistication while abandoning your own.

We are not going to beg anyone. . Bowo omode o ba te eku ida, ko le bere iku to pa baba e. Bojo o ro, agbado o gbo, oju gbogbo w ani o ri.
