Following an alleged incessant robbery at Aguda, Surulere area of Lagos State, the state’s Police Command has called on residents to ensure incidents are adequately reported at designated police stations in their area.

A resident, Kelechi Bernard, on Thursday took to his Twitter handle to lament the repeated armed robbery along Adetola street, in Aguda.

“Robbers are having a field day in Aguda Surulere Lagos. These dangerous individuals raid homes from 2am, traumatizing Innocent citizens.

“Streets affected are the ones branching off Adetola Street, heading towards Cele Bus Stop. Reports about the raids have been consistent over the past few days,” he wrote.

He, however, called on the Lagos police to tackle the issues.

Another Twitter user, Don sazzy, said he was robbed in the area two months ago.

He said, “Ah I was a victim 2 months ago. In broad daylight oh.

“Went to the police station, gave my statement, they visited my flat self. Till now, nothing. I am moving on abeg,” He added.

A firm, Salyek Steel Limited said, “When incidents are reported police don’t take it seriously until after the incident. What then is the purpose of security when one cannot live comfortably in the hood. What they focus on mostly is how to extort. Am sorry for saying this but the truth must be told.”

Reacting to the report in a post on his Twitter handle, the Lagos state police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, debunked the report.

He stressed that robbery incidents should be reported at the real police station and not twitter stations.

He said, “I just confirmed from the DPO Aguda that not one person has reported these alleged incidents.

“People need to learn to channel their complaints appropriately to real police stations, not twitter stations. Complaints will be followed by actions. Do the needful!

“If these alleged incidents had been reported, the DPO would have mapped out strategies to forestall its perpetuation, including improved patrols. No DPO would want to risk sanctions by ignoring such weighty complaints.”

Unserious naija police is asking the citizens to report robbery and crime to police. What will the police do if u report? They can only do the following?

1. Ask u to pay report fee
2. Pay fuel money that will take them to the scene
3. Ask u the type of guns that the robbers came with? (The most important of all the questions).
4. How many of the robbers came for the operation
5. By the time the would have finished with all these questions, they know that the armed robbers would have finished operation and u know police does not refund money.
6. If per adventure they are able to meet the robbers and successfully arrest them, they will collect money from them and release them. This is the most wicked part, the armed robbers will now fully come for ur life for calling police on them.

Naija police no work, I don't know what they learn when they go for training abroad.

Oga move police stations to twitter. Share every police station handle and let them be tagged in any report case.

It is 2022 and not 1982. Social tools are there for everyones use including the Police. Nigeria will always remain backward with folks like this at the helm. Imagine someone being robbed at 2am and you want them to make way to Police station.

I recall one Road Safety Chief also saying it is illegal to use Google Maps.

Awon olodo.

Many Nigerian youths are currently suffering from social media fever, Police station may not be far away from their homes and streets but they choose to report online for clouts. At least make a report to the nearest police station before you come online for clouts.

Imagine....this guys are a joke......so a whole learned spokesman doesn't know the world has gone digital and even they, the police should have a digital wing that looks into this kind of reports. The only thing they know is to be reactive instead of being proactive.

But if some people start planning protest in the same Twitter, they will jump out with "intelligence report" on how hoodlums are planning to hijack the protest and stop it

Reporting to police in this country sef is another risk........
some that even do, have nothing to show for it

Police station should be the right place to report any crime after all

But our people don’t trust the system anymore.

But who can re instill trust in the system?

Is this Benjamin related to David Hundeyin?
