Police Raid Peoples Gazette’s Main Office In Abuja, Arrest Editor, Four Others by HonNL: 1:39pm On Jul 22, 2022
The Nigerian government on Friday continued its assault on Peoples Gazette with the raid of the newspaper’s head office in Abuja that ended with the arrest of one of its editors and four other staff members.

John Adenekan, an assistant managing editor, was taken away at about 12:35 p.m. by five armed police officers who broke into the paper’s office opposite NNPC Quarters in Utako.

The officers returned to the office to arrest four other staff members, Ameedat Adeyemi, Grace Oke, Sammy Ogbu and Justina Tayani.

The officers declined to state the reason for their assault, but demanded to see Managing Editor Samuel Ogundipe and reporter Adefemola Akintade.

Both journalists were not available during the operation, prompting the officers to arrest Mr Adenekan in their stead, perpetuating an unconstitutional tradition of arresting associates in the event that people of interest are unavailable.

Mr Adenekan said he was being taken to the Utako police division following the raid, which comes as the Buhari regime gets increasingly angry with the paper’s brand of journalism.

The Gazette has faced several attacks aimed at intimidating its journalists since its inception in September 2020, including the restriction of access to its website in January 2021 and the invasion of the same head office in January 2022 by the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

I saw this coming to this

Well rather than Screaming wolf to seek emotions and sentiment for blackmail...

People's Gazzett should get their legal team and head to the police station to let us know the petition, who served the petition and who issued the arrest warrant

I hope Chief MKO Abiolas family also institute a legal suit and a petition at Scotland Yard or Met police to have David Hudeyen prove his allegations against late philatropist Abiola over Politics

Kemi Olunloyo would have still continued defaming people if not for pastor Ibiyomi that took her to court

Same with Johnson Use

Even Adeyinka Grandson trying to incite violence until UK police ended his media run

angry

Sadly enough some Nigerians would support this, forgetting that the suffocation of free press without credible justification is the beginning of Tyranny and the end of democracy.

Muhammadu Buhari may cry about what and what shouldn't be his legacy, but this unwarranted onslaught on our journalists today, one of many we have suffered since we launched PG in September 2020, will forever live in infamy for his despotic regime.

This is very despicable.

The Nigerian Police have increased the cost of obtaining a Police Character Certificate from N5,000 to N40,000. This is a document valid for only 3 months and required by most Nigerians seeking to study abroad or migrate abroad for better opportunities.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian International Passport which is valid for 5 years costs only N26,000.

The question every well-meaning Nigerian should be asking is "why will a document valid for only 3 months cost twice the price of a document that is valid for 5 years?"

Please join in compelling the IG of Police to reverse the price of obtaining PCC to N5,000 by signing the petition via the link below. Over 5000 people have signed but we need more people to lend their voice.

Fake news platform.
Please I plead with FG not to allow this action to be misinterpreted as clampdown against free press, they should be thoroughly investigated and when found culpable be prosecuted for laws they breached while giving them free access to their lawyers.

I have never seen a platform that concocts fake news so brazenly as that platform and they do it so frequently as if there are no laws in place in the land to enforce and ensure that charlatans are kept away from journalism.

The notoriety of that platform in fake news and blackmail is a disgrace to the practice of journalism in Nigeria shocked

Mr Mojeed Muskilu , the former boss of the PG editor, once dragged him online alleged him as dangerous to everyone including himself.
I just pity those working there. They can't learn anything outside fake news peddling and blackmail.
