Please I need people to say their experiences at Muritala Muhamed Airport. The extortion in that Airport is outrageous.

No matter how complete your documents are, they must find a way to frustrate and milk you. Especially if you are a first time traveler.

I begin to ask myself, is it what Nigeria Officials has become ? This is too bad. You go to other countries you receive a warm welcome, but once you get to Nigeria, you start hearing unnecessary questions and requests.

Our government needs to address this corruption. You can say your experience at MMA.

My rule-book:

1. Arrive early. Never have I arrived at that airport later than six hours to my flight (international) or three hours (domestic).

2. Don’t be mean or rude. To any senseless request for money, meet it with a firm and smiling “I no get o.”

3. You’re not in a hurry and are prepared to stay with them for hours - they’ll see that on your boarding pass, too.

It's not about arriving early. If this people want to frustrate you, they will. Very wicked set of people. Stealing from innocent individuals as if it's normal. Pray you don't encounter them. Lagos is worst.

Op is talking from a painful experience

I don't blame them
Those airport people think it's their entitlement

This is what happens when your staff aren't properly paid and there is no contentment and integrity in the job

This is one of many reasons why people would rather visit or relocate to other African countries than Nigeria.

How is it that Nigeria is known globally for its music/entertainment, arts & numerous cultures, yet, the average traveller would never consider Nigeria as a tourist destination (which it should be).

Nowadays it seems everyone, including African Americans (ADOS) are vibing to afrobeats and are beginning to embrace their heritage, yet when the desire to return to Africa comes, they'd rather relocate & invest in Ghana (even though most can trace their ancestry to Nigeria) - this alone is very telling.

I'd say the exception to this rule are the celebrities who are paid millions to visit Nigeria and are guaranteed police & army escorts throughout their stay so they can navigate the deadly jungle with their lives & property still intact.

Nobody will dismiss them. Their boss knows what they are doing. The system is corrupt.

At times, whilst strolling or driving in Lagos........ I stop and give police officers lunch money.........

The country is in a mess ..........

I don't think you have been at the pity of this people we are talking about. If people should tell you their experiences in that airport, you won't be saying this.
Forget about giving out of pity.

You can say that ...... I cannot be at the pity or mercy, of people.......

Give me a scenario where they would oppress and I would be at their mercy..........

You remind me of an encounter with them, many years ago ........

I was accused of attempting to travel with a fake passport, I thought it was all a joke, the plane departed (without me)......

That stupid mistake by their official, cost them more than they could ever imagine...... It cost them a stay in a 5 star hotel for almost 1 week, all expenses on them, another Kabo air ticket to Lagos and a 1st class ticket to London....... (all expenses on them)

This is just a brief summary........

I see that you are making a case for them here. You might be opportuned to have the connection to fight for yourself and your right. Not everyone have such ability and these lions at the airport take advantage of it.

Other nations respect their citizens once they land in their airport, not in Nigeria. Rather your brother or sister want to eat you raw.

They will even give way to other foreigners than you.

Do you know how many people that have paid through their nose because of the same issue you benefited from? I have been traveling through this airport. Sometimes I pity young guys. Especially first timers.

Unfortunately, I still pity them...... If I am approached with respect and dignity......... I find them lunch money ((Nigeria is hard)........

I have never been delayed at an airport before but I have first hand experience when they wanted to deal with a friend. One of the immigration officials that was just standing after one official already stamped my friend's passport asked him for his passport n asked him where he's going . He answered US. Asked him for his i20, asked how much he has on him. He then asked him for his educational certificates, he said he doesn't have it. Na where the problem started. I smiled I told the officer that what he meant he has his credentials in his checked in bags. Of course, the officer knew he has no power to go to the airline to request for his bags, so he let go of him.

2nd was two adults( 30yrs and 60yrs) travelling together and immigration said he won't let them board as the young adult needs a letter from the woman's family that they authorized her to travel with her cos because they don't bear same surname cheesy only for the mum to say have you ever thought she's my daughter and she's married hence the change I'm surname? Those immigration officers too corrupt. They even ask u for bribes openly

These people will beg you from the entrance to the boarding gate.

I once told an immigration lady disturbing my trip, that I was no longer travelling; that i found a wife(her). I went to the counter of her male colleagues on duty to tell them I'm not going again, that I want to marry her.

Na so she weak.

She acted that way because of my fresh passport, but unknown to her, that was not my first trip. I dash her and her colleague small thing. We laughed and parted.
