The Archbishop, Province of the Niger, and Bishop Diocese of Awka Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, has blamed over-reliance on prayers as major factor contributing to the loss of talents in Nigeria.

He decried that Christians no longer work hard due to the belief that God through fervent prayers can enrich humanity and make man prosper.

Archbishop Ibezim made this known while laying a foundation stone for the Administrative block and classrooms in commemoration of his 60th birthday at Mary Summer Vocational Institute, Awka, the Anambra State capital on Thursday.

Delivering his homily at the event, the Archbishop told Christians to shun laziness and embrace hard work to achieve success in life.

According to him, "True gospel is that which proclaims that you must work very hard in order to develop your God-given talent and potential. So many talents are decaying in our country today because of too much prayers.

"A Christian is admonished to work very hard. A child of God should not be lazy because Christianity is not a lazy religion or culture. We must know that the gospel is not only about preaching, it is also about doing and being actionable."

On the Nigerian situation, he said "too much prayer is spoiling our country, Nigeria. It is high time we got out in order to work. Our leaders are afraid of hard work; that is why today we see many people struggling to occupy positions of power because they see it as a place to rest."

Performing the foundation stone-laying of the classrooms and administrative block of the institute, Archbishop Ibezim said the purpose of establishing the institute was to proclaim Christ and to teach the students how to live and manifest wisdom for end time survival.

"The existence of Mary Summer institute is to train young people that are hardworking; to allow them develop their talents because time has gone when people think that individuals doing evangelism are lazy. Today, evangelism without hard work is not evangelism.

"We are in a moral relativity. The God we serve is the God of truth and so, we are not giving chance to pervasion of truth. That is why the church is taking time to build institutes like this; where our girls would be taught what is biblical and what will help them develop their talents to survive challenges of life."

Speaking further, Archbishop Ibezim said that "Mary Summer is a very important institute as obtainable in many universities of the world. We don't play with the future because it is important. We have created the ladder of climbing higher educationally, culturally and spiritually and the youths must climb the ladder to attain success."

He commended the director of the institute for her hardwork and dedication to service. He also charged the graduating students to put what they have learned in the institute to good use and shun all forms of prostitution and wayward lifestyle.

In her remarks, the Director of the Institute, Mrs Uche Emekwisia reminded that the thirty-two year old institute was built by the Mother's Union of the Diocese of Awka, Anglican communion.

She also admonished the graduands to be good ambassadors of the institute in the outside world, having acquired sufficient skills to survive in their line of endeavors.

Elsewhere in Okpuno, the Archbishop performed a foundation stone-laying of the Mount Zion International Retreat/Resource centre, Kamali Layout, Awka. The Archbishop said the centre will oversee the teaching and learning of the word of God, for personal meditation and for total wellbeing of human being.

The center will soon be a center of attraction in hosting spiritual events nationally and internationally as envisioned by it's founders.

President, Mother's Union, Women's Guild and Girl's Guild, Mrs Martha Chioma Ibezim, JP among others Clergymen and wives attended the event.

The untold hardship in Nigeria has made prayers the only sojourn for the common man in a failed State like Nigeria.

We must always SHINE, SHOW AND LIVE BY ACTING, INTERACTING AND MOVING
AND ALWAYS REMEMBERING, "THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS DONE IN HEAVEN".
FAITH AND HOPE CARRIED MOSES AND THE ISRAELITES THROUGH THE RED SEA.
FAITH, HOPE, PEACE AND LOVE MADE HIM RESURRECT.

Osinbajo IS GUILELESS. THE ELECTORATE HAS THE LAST SAY. THE MILITARY HAS GREAT STAKE IN NIGERIA POLITICS. LET Osinbajo PICK A RETIRED MILITARY GENERAL AS VP AND WE MOVE ON.

True, the doctrine of grace, tithing and first fruit have been misconstrued to be ones having the propensity to make you wealthy overnight without puting the much needed hard work, sacrifices and tenacity.
As much they are facts based and biblical, our MOGs must learn to preach 'balance' in all these.

The nonchalance of the Nigerian government towards talented youths has caused a mass exodus of talents from the country. An average Nigerian wants to travel abroad by all means, as Nigeria continues to be an infertile land for their talents

Nigeria...

We are the most religious and most prayerful country in the world. Yet, one of the most backwards. Still wondering how the prayers have helped us. To fight evil forces, perhaps.

I don't think this is entirely true. The fact is that Nigerians are generally hardworking people, hustlers sometimes doing 2 or 3 jobs just to survive. We resort to prayers when things are not working despite all the efforts. If the government was a bit more responsible, we wouldn't have to rely on prayers so much.

Banning Religion is not the antidote to false teachings and misconceptions.

That has always been the case with black man long before the coming of the white man & his religion.
Babalawos & juju priest have always exploited the gullibles. & presently most of those spiritualists have upgraded & repackaged as Pastors, Prophets, Imams etc just to remain in business.

So the problem is with the black man & not necessarily religion.

But we have religion in other developed Countries.

Our problem is misinterpretation of religion.

No true religion encourages corruption
No true religion support prayer without hard work
No true religion support ritual killings
No true religion support yahoo

If we truly practice RELIGION, Nigeria would have been a better place

Sad but truth. Religion is pure nonsense, it's mainly mental slavery. Africans think they are worshiping Almighty deity not realising they are being scammed and made to look foolish in order to remain largely underdevelpoed with " only god can do it mentality". That is the opportunity Nigerian big GOs are exploring to further ridicule them in the name of jesus and mahammed.
