Forgery Of Dollar Bills: U.S. Officials Confirm Active Bench Warrant For Imo Deputy Governor

A senior clerk at the District Court in Nassau County in New York has confirmed to SaharaReporters that a bench warrant issued by a district court judge with respect to current deputy governor of Imo State, Jude Ikechi Agbaso, remains valid and in force.

According to the Court Officer, Mr. Agbaso faces arrest on felony charges related to currency fraud if he attempts to pass through any US Immigration post.

Investigations revealed that Mr. Agbaso jumped bail in 1994 after United States law enforcement authorities obtained his arrest in a forgery sting.

In the devastating court records obtained by SaharaReporters from the Nassau County Clerk’s office in the State of New York, it was revealed that Jude Ikechi Agbaso and an accomplice, Eugene Harding, were arrested on June 20 1994 and charged with “criminal possession of a forged instrument in the first degree.

The bond posted by Ms Leveille was forfeited on August 11, 1994. On Dec. 30, 1994, Mr. Agbaso was indicted. His indictment number is 90454. The forfeiture was classified as felony No. 16117/94. Judge Claire I. Weinberg signed the indictment documents.

For each forged bill, Agbaso was charged with one count of fraud, for a total of seventeen counts. His accomplice was charged with six counts of fraud. Officer Kenneth Taylor of the 3rd Precinct was the arresting officer. He has since retired from the force.

On April 10, 2011, the Imo State Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) challenged anyone to prove that Mr. Agbaso was guilty of jumping bail in the United States. The APGA official was responding to questions posed by Nicholas Ibekwe. The interview was posted on Next Community website.

Asked about claims that Mr. Agbaso, who is a younger brother of a one-time gubernatorial candidate, was a fugitive in the United States, the APGA state chairman went on the attack, vouching for Mr. Agbaso’s integrity. “I know Jude Agbaso. I know he is not a criminal. If there is an allegation against him, they should prove it. Now that they have gone to the court, let the court decide.”

Asked further if the allegations of Mr. Agbaso’s fugitive past could not hurt his party’s campaign, the APGA chieftain refused to back down. Instead, he stated that “people say all sorts of things. There was a propaganda some time ago that Rochas belonged to the Ogboni Secret Society. Why didn't they say it all along? He has been screened. I screened them; my committee screened them, and the SSS screened them. So if all this processes took place, how do you get your information? Okay, go to a court of law and let it be proved.”

Meanwhile, an Owerri Federal High Court presided over by Justice Folashade Olubanjo granted Mr. Agbaso permission to run for office, after Mr. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, filed a motion on behalf of Mr. George Egu.

At the height of the controversy, APGA chiefs openly lied to Imo citizens that Mr. Jude Agbaso traveled to the United States and returned without any incident. SaharaReporters did not find any evidence that Mr. Agbaso has visited the United States since he fled justice in 1994.

This one will be another test for Imo people known as the best state in Nigeria for fighting criminals in unison. Together they fought Otokoto, Obidiozor, Gov419 Govs Tanko Zubairu and Ikedi Ohakim against the wishes of government and law enforcement and I hope they fight their deputy governor this time around like they usually do.

All along, some of us who sided with minority voices in Imo State knew the team of Rochas Okorocha and Jude Ikechi Agbaso was another leap in darkness taken by the people of Imo State. In fact, the magical activities of the executive branch of Imo State government since the beginning its tenure had left few of us with ominous feelings.

SHENZHEN: A Nigerian man received the death penalty Tuesday in Dongguan, Guangdong province, after being convicted of drug trafficking. Experts say it is the first case in the southern manufacturing city in which a foreigner has received a death sentence for drug trafficking.

His sentence was handed down from the Guangdong Higher People's Court. The execution still needs the review and final approval of the Supreme People's Court.

Osonwa Okey Noberts, 37, was found trading nearly 6 kg drugs to Chinese drug dealers at his rented apartment in Baiyun district of Guangzhou from February to April 2008, according to the investigation.

"Osonwa Okey Noberts took the drugs from the suppliers and sold them to the lower-tier buyers in China. The amount of heroin reached 5,978.1 grams. He deserves the most severe punishment," said a press release by the Intermediate People's Court of Dongguan, where the final verdict was announced.

Zhang Dongxiang, the 27-year-old Chinese girlfriend of Noberts, received a death sentence with a two-year reprieve for assisting the illegal trade.

They lived together starting in July 2007 but when she discovered almost six months later that the Nigerian was trafficking drugs, she rented another room next to their apartment to facilitate the trading and provided necessary help.

Two other Chinese drug dealers, Wu Xianjun and Jiang Xuzhi, also received death sentences with two-year reprieves for drug trafficking and employing people for the illegal activities. Policemen found guns and bullets in their homes when they were arrested in April 2008.

The Guangdong Higher People's Court upheld the convictions of the first trial at the Dongguan Intermediate People's Court in June last year but reduced the sentences on four of the convicts after taking into consideration their appeals, the report said.

According to China's criminal law, trafficking of more than 50 grams of heroin can warrant the death penalty.

Official statistics showed that drug trafficking by foreigners is becoming rampant in Guangdong.

Four foreigners, along with five other suspects, have been in custody since they were caught in Shenzhen for allegedly smuggling 144.5 kg of heroin from Pakistan in September 2009.

The Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court heard eight drug-trafficking cases, involving nine Africans, were involved, in November 2008. Eight received a stay of execution, while the ninth person was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Whenever you hear this kind of news, before you hear the name of the perpetrator, one can always bet it's an Igbo name. Why is this very very predominant amongst the Igbos lads and lasses. Traditionally, I respect the Igbos for their industriousness and creativity, but what's happening these days?

Some of this news don't make sense. First, any crime involving forgery is handled by the Secret Service and the person who brings indictment is the United States Justice Department. No where in this report does it mention that the Justice Department, nor the Secret Service. In addition, they quoted

Investigations revealed that Mr. Agbaso jumped bail in 1994 after United States law enforcement authorities obtained his arrest in a forgery sting.

Whatever they meant by jumped bail and yet they did not initiate an arrest nor brought charges? Where were the federal marshals? They say it's currency fraud, and then say forged instrument? These are two different types of crimes; a currency ($$$) is a monetary instrument which is likely to carry more time as opposed to "forged instrument" (like bonds, checks, money order et al) which carries lesser time, The question is, which is it? IMO, this is just bullshit; if the man is still a dep gov of a state, why isn't the U.S. extraditing him back to the U.S. to stand trial? Besides, come to think of it, the clerk confirmed it, Justice Dept (the dept who brought charges for the arrest) yet they did not ask what the "statutes of limitation" where for currency forgery. Either way, it's more than 17years, and I'm sure the statutes are expired.

You have a point but Saharareports may have left some crucial information out. The most important thing is there is still an active warrant for his arrest. If the deputy governor disagrees with saharareports, let him attend the Igbo convention in the US come September and if he is not arrested, then he is innocent.

I'm obviously not disputing the arrest, innocent and guilty people get arrested daily for different offense from traffic to misdemeanor and even including crimes. Just because you're arrested don't mean sh/it, doesn't mean you're convicted of the crime. What I'm questioning is the validity of this reports. Anyway, I'm sure he can find top criminal attorney from top law firms can represent him very well.
