Whatever prompted the Ekweremadus to fly to far-away London UK, for their daughter’s kidney trans-plant operation which services and expertise are available in modern Nigerian hospitals commissioned specially for the sole purpose of reversing medical tourism and saving the nation’s scarce foreign exchange reserves!

Nigeria recorded the first-ever successful paediatric kidney transplant on two patients at the St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos in August 2009, some thirteen (13) years ago! There are not less than five specialist hospitals in the commercial city of Nigeria that cater for renal complications.

Two successful kidney transplants were recorded in January 2014, at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital [DELSUTH], Oghara, while doctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital [LASUTH], in November 2015, also celebrated first successful kidney transplant ever carried out in a tertiary hospital on a 56-year- old male patient. The second successful transplant by the same hospital was carried out in August of 2016, on a 38-year-old male patient.

Also in October 2021, Afe Babalola University Multi-System Hospital Ado-Ekiti, [ABUAD], South-West Nigeria, recorded its first Kidney transplant after a procedure which lasted five hours and fifteen minutes on an hypertensive and prostate-afflicted 46-year-old.

Home-grown, world-class, professional and specialist doctors equipped with modern healthcare facilities for kidney transplant, occupy pride of place in medical and kidney specialized centres that deliver first-class quality and excellent health care services in renal medicine and other specialities like urology, cardiology, paediatrics, gastroenterology, general surgery, gynaecological surgery etc, with state-of-the-art technological advanced equipments and procedures abound in all of Nigeria’s Six Geo-Political Zones! Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the learned lawmaker decided to abandon all of the above available Nigerian facilities and opted for the UK for reasons he might explain some day!

LONDON METROPOLITAN POLICE ARREST IKE EKWEREMADU AND WIFE ON THURSDAY 30TH JUNE 2022, AND CHARGED WITH ALLEGED TRAFFICKING OF A YOUNG NIGERIAN TO HARVEST HIS KIDNEY!

Ike Ekweremadu is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, a lawyer and a former Deputy Senate President for three consecutive [6th, 7th and 8th ], Senate.
On the 23rd June 2022, he was charged along with his wife, Beatrice, in the UK Magistrate’s Court with conspiring to arrange the travel of a 21-year-old into the UK in order to harvest organs.

Ike, very exposed and civilised was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987 and had participated in politics until he won the prestigious title of best Local Government Chairman on the platform of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) in 1997 and had since remained in politics till he was elected into the Senate in 2003.
It was said that the legislator’s daughter needed a kidney transplant which necessitated the London trip. But it turned out at the hospital that the contracted young man’s organ was incompatible with the young woman’s and he was promptly requested to return to Nigeria.
The young man instead ran to the London Metropolitan Police and lied that he was a minor who was trafficked for organ harvesting by the couple and a Nigerian medical doctor practising in the UK who were promptly arrested and charged with violation of the Modern Slavery, 2015.

Ike Ekweremadu and the doctor will remain in custody until 31st October, 2022 when trial will continue but his wife was granted bail on stringent conditions.
THE UK IS A PARLIAMENTARY DEMOCRACY WHERE ALL CITIZENS FROM PRIME MINISTER, PARLIAMENTARIANS AND SETTLERS ARE TREATED EQUALLY ACCORDING TO THE LAW!

From the moment of arrest Mr, Ekweremadu and wife were treated as suspects in spite of their travel documents which included a Diplomatic Passport but judicial process was meticulously followed to ensure that the trial was conducted in the UK and not transferred to Nigeria without consideration to any form of immunity!

Apart from being a Nigerian lawmaker, Ekweremadu is also a seasoned and professional lawyer who is vast in the Law of Contract which has not been mentioned so far since the trial began!
*Was there a legal contract between the chosen donor and the Ekweremadus or between any member of his family in respect of the transplant?
*Were there agreements that spelt out all areas of the contract beginning with the journey to London i.e. responsibility for travel tickets, accommodation, feeding, monetary allowances for duration of stay in the city.
*What form of medical tourism was envisaged and what financial package did the Ekweremadus propose for the kidney to be harvested and how was such money to be paid had the medical operation succeeded or failed?
*Was any member of the organ donor family involved at any time in Nigeria before his departure to London? Was there any contractual agreement between the two parties?

COMPARATIVE COST OF KIDNEY TRANSPLANT IN NIGERIA, INDIA AND THE UNITED KINGDOM [UK].

Kidney transplant in Nigeria costs between NGN4.7 –NGN7million naira; In India – between Rs.5 to Rs.6 Lakh in private hospitals (at $1,500 dollars per Lakh -$7,500 -$9,000 US dollars). What about Britain? According to a Health Publication of Thursday, 4th December, 2003, credited to Esther Addley, “One kidney costs $100,000. The donor gets $2,000” – through illegal website advertisements for sales of human body parts!

The publication also stated that although it was illegal in Britain to buy, sell, advertise, or seek to procure any of the human organs or tissue that can usefully be sliced off one person and sewn onto another – hearts, lungs, kidneys, livers, pancreas, small bowel, corneas, bone marrow, skin, heart valves, or tendons, the racketeering was a booming trade because: “THE WEALTHY UNWELL WERE PROVING THEMSELVES UNWILLING TO HANG ABOUT – ON THE QUEUE BUT RATHER IGNORE THE LAW FOR A VITAL ORGAN”!
Statistics of successful Kidney Transplant in Nigeria: The Nigerian Nephrology Association [NNA], on the occasion of the March 2020 World Kidney Day Celebration, disclosed that 700 Kidney transplants had been successfully performed in the country!
Kidney failures are usually caused through “high blood pressure and diabetes” which are the most common. Other causes include physical injury, diseases or other health disorders.
IN TURKEY, PATIENTS ARE FITTED WITH HARVESTED MOLDOVAN, ROMANIAN OR ESTONIAN KIDNEY!

Was it true that the Ekweremadus were arrested at the Heathrow Airport on their journey to Turkey to negotiate for new donor?
How true is it that the “wealthy unwell will always be impatient to queue, but will damn any consequence and ignore the law for a vital organ”! The 31st October, 2022, adjourned date is a few months away for the unfolding drama to be concluded!
“Let God be true, but every man be a liar, as it is written, That thou mightiest be justified in Thy sayings and mightiest overcome when thou art judged!. [Romans. 3:4.].

[WATCH OUT FOR A NIGERIAN PRIME MINISTER – NOT A PRESIDENT IN 2023!]

He could have made sure that hospitals in Nigeria can treat and perform transplants in Nigeria, and use his influence or position to make sure that they have adequate budgets every year but no. They think shouting or going abroad is a class thing it's not, it's self hate.
