Or rather, the leaders are bad because they are drawn from a mass of already corrupt ordinary citizens. We love to tell ourselves that we act the way we do because our leaders set a bad example, but the truth is precisely the other way around: there are very few ordinary, church/mosque-going, "honest" Nigerians who wouldn't put Dasuki, Abacha, Diezani and the rest to shame if ever given the opportunity. All that "I hate the corruption of XYZ" means when coming from the mouth of a typical Nigerian is "I hate how XYZ are leaving me out of their corruption". If not for this corrupt mindset, every election wouldn't turn into a tribal, religiously sectarian "do or die" struggle with people mouthing nonsense about "turn by turn" or "fairness, equity and justice" ...

Government is the pure and innocent mirror of the nation, faithfully reflecting whatever is presented to it.

When the current president said that "Nigerians are Fantastically Corrupt" he was insulted.. But what he said was the absolute truth.
Corruption has eaten really deep into the system to the point that Doing The Right Thing Now Feels Like The Wrong Thing

The ratio of people who choose to do right is comparatively too small to those who do wrong.

We deserve the kind of leadership we've been getting in this country...
Most times, we only see wrongs in the doings of our leaders when we're not direct beneficiaries of their corruption.

We can only get it right in this country When we as individuals first change our mentality.
The CHANGE we deserve and desire begins with us(individually).

Many people don't know that it is impossible for politicians to steal money without the knowledge of the civil servants in the various ministries. But only politicians names are on people's lips. We are all the same after all
No be lie,,,Most Nigerian civil servants re worst than politicians,,,,

OP you are funny, what do you expect when the leaders at the top are corrupt, definitely the junior staff will want to take their share, it just so sad our health system is nothing to talk about and my pity is for the less privilege who can't afford to pay. God deliver us from this wolves in human form.

"THE LEADERS AT THE TOP" didn't just become leaders.. They started from somewhere... the corruption starts at the lower level, the individual level. And then when these individuals get into power, they just do what they've always done in large scales.

We're our own problem.. Cos when the majority of people complaining about these corrupt practices get into a position to loot... They do just that!!!

The hospital is supposed to have a finance department that takes care of payments

Yesterday I was to go for a test , but I first paid at the finance department of the general hospital.

It was the receipt and the test description slip I gave the lab scientist and everything was done appropriately.

The hospital management isn't serious, they should have been able to fix this mess already

Only the fear of God can help us get things right in this country

on the contrary, they leave it like that because they need the holes with no audit trail.

you see the way ASUU is complaining about IPPIS? Every other federal civil servant is on the platform. no story. IPPIS is oracle at the backend.

the real story is that double salaries etal can be audited at source.

bring on a proper finance process and you will see all of them complaining.

Corruption is in every country and it's the job of the govt to control hence it's given executive powers to do that. Once citizens start to see scapegoats, everybody will couple themselves. It's hard to tell ordinary citizens to shun corruption whilst the elite wallow in corruption, no reasonable society will ever work that way

Same way a pound£ is 526 but Nigerians abroad will be charging upto 820 just for them to help you pay for something abroad or send you fx. Look at the gap and tell me if that’s not wickedness. Making money at the expense of their country’s expense. Or is it the one where banks staffs now sell fx to abokis while they tell customers that there’s no fx angry sad

You will lodge in a hotel and hotel staffs will be stylishly demanding for tips from you and if you don’t drop the they won’t respond quickly to your request as if they don’t get paid

Many of us have very touching stories to tell about the misconduct we see among civil servants in our communities.
It's a pity we even have such a mentality.

Keep up the good work gentleman, and encourage others to do so.

And tell them Nigeria will be better when we all serve with humility, honesty and patriotism.

LONG LIVE Nigeria

We all need to start talking, and share our stories, let it go viral and create more and more awareness about our experience with corrupt systems, and let people begin to renounce and publicly reject the culture of corruption for things to change.

Corruption is like a cancer, it has eaten so deep into our system that it will take the grace of God to cleanse.

Not even the grace!
Not in this lifetime. The system isn't well set up and too porous for change to occur.

My younger brother did his IT in a hospital lab, he was suspended for 2 weeks by the medical director for speaking against the corruption that was going on in the lab. In that hospital they write test results without doing the test because money meant for the test kid has been shared. They will just look at a patient and assumed he/she has certain ailment and write the result. Money generated from the fake test too 90% is not remitted to the government.
