The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has described the circulating news that its meeting with the Nigerian government on Tuesday ended in deadlock as untrue.

The union’s National Chairman, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, stated this on Wednesday morning in a telephone conversation with SaharaReporters.

It had been reported widely that the Tuesday’s meeting between the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government again ended without an agreement.

However, Osodeke said the viral news on Tuesday night about the outcome of the union meeting with the government was “not true.”

He, therefore, urged the public to wait for details of the meeting which would be contained in a press release that would be out soon.

ASUU embarked on a four-week warning strike on February 14.

On March 14, the union extended the industrial action by another two months to allow the government to meet all of its demands. A 12-week extension was announced on May 9.

Since May 9, the union has remained on strike, vowing to persist until its demands are met.

The academics are seeking improved welfare, revitalisation of public universities and academic autonomy among other demands.

He, therefore, urged the public to wait for details of the meeting which would be contained in a press release that would be out soon.

A corrupt APC government would rather pay a special assistant 800k monthly than pay a professor. Next time, don't vote a Boko haram government into power, they don't value education.
