A lot of the young people involved in the rioting are out of work and the chances of them ever getting a job any time soon is very remote - the unemployment rate for black youths between the ages of 16-24 in the UK as at 2010 was an unbeleivable 50%!!! most of these people are filled with rage, and its easy for them to vent their anger in the way they did last night.

I can never remember a time that Tottenham was free of poverty, unemployment and crime - over the years the problems have deepened, most whites who could afford it left this area in droves in the early 70s when blacks started moving in.

The british govt has failed to provide jobs and opportunities for many of the black families who live in that borough, but they have beefed up their police presence in the area who have victimised and harassed many of the young black people. 

26 years ago in 1985 a similar riot broke out in a neighbouring area known as broadwater farm - blacks were angry because of the lack of jobs and opportunities just like the current generation they felt betrayed and let down by a system which has continued to deny blacks equal access to good jobs, housing and education.

for those people saying these rioters are just a bunch of lazy black kids  all i can say to you is you dont know what you are talking about, you should try going to some working class white towns like margate, gillingham and hastings where you have generations of whites who have never worked in their lives and who live in clean, spacious council houses with lovely gardens and  get all their bills paid for by the govt.  They can even afford to go away on holiday every year, these people are treated with respect and dignity by the police and are forever moaning about how the govt isnt doing this and that for them, some of these people have never worked in over 20 years!!! but theres no pressure on them because the govt picks up the tab.

You no sabi your geography well. Wood Green is under Hornsey ward (another of ma old hoods) and Finsbury Park falls under Highbury and Islington jurisdiction.

I've lived in Tottenham for over 5yrs. The level of poverty there is appalling. Am sure this is pent up anger over the yrs not only about the shot guy. Its also strange that 99% of the police who reacted to the incidence were white. White policing a black neigborhood.  Are there noo black people articulate enough to drive around those pandas or ride those riot horses?  Anyway most of violence was perpetrated by people who had no idea why a peaceful protest was going on in the first place.

Already copycat riots happened in Brixton, Enfield, Walthamstow. Helicopters have been hovering over our house since saturday.

What rubbish!! Police beat up a 15 yr old girl, and some miscreants loot and burn a, police station? NO. They did not even attack the police, rather, they went to a corporate premises where they have always had long-throat to steal from. Anyone caught in this act should be treated like an armed robber, and rightly so.
