The Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi and the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo were in Rome on Saturday as Pope Francis named the Bishop of Ekwulobia, Peter Okpaleke, as a cardinal.

His new name is now His Eminence Peter Cardinal Okpaleke.

Okpaleke was born on 1 March, 1963 is a Nigerian prelate of the Catholic Church who has been Bishop of Ekwulobia since 29 April 2020.

He was appointed Bishop of Ahiara in 2012 and consecrated in 2013, but after the local clergy and laity insisted on an Mbaise bishop instead he was installed as bishop of Ekwulobia.

On 19 February 2018, Pope Francis accepted Okpaleke’s resignation as Bishop of Ahiara.

On 5 March 2020, just over two years after accepting his resignation as Bishop of Ahiara, Pope Francis appointed Okpaleke the Bishop of the Diocese of Ekwulobia, a newly created diocese in Anambra State which formerly had its territory under the jurisdiction of Awka Diocese. Okpaleke was installed there on 29 April 2020.

Pope Francis made him a cardinal on 27 August 2022, assigning him to the rank of cardinal priest with the titular church of Ss. Martiri dell’Uganda a Poggio Ameno.

Felicitate, not facilitate.

At this point Peter Obi has outdone MTN in 'everywhere you go.' He seems to be everywhere!

. If the number of sensible Nigerians exceeds the number of senseless Nigerians, then Peter Obi will become the president. I just hope his campaign will redeem more senseless Nigerians from their avowed tribalism, religious intolerance, and resentment.

... Who God has blessed, let no man cursed!

Nigerians should endeavor to have a style of dress that can be accepted as a national dress and I think this "senator" dress should be the type. Most serious countries have something like this. Obviously, suits are not good for our climate so we have to go for something local. The ishiagu is too glamorous for such. The babaringa is not work friendly. Even the type worn by Jonathan looks too over accessoried for work. This kind of dress by Obi looks very simple, very original and most importantly, very work/office friendly. I don't know about you, but I always feel emberassed watching members of many Nigerian delegations to different international events, appear in all sorts of uncoordinated and racous attires.

We have some like the foreign affairs minister appearing in the conventional "senator" attire, then you have the northerners appearing in their babaringas of different colors, Amechi will wear his Jaja of Opobo, Ngige will come with his peculiar cap,.. even the ladies appear in different attires, some wearing western dresses and some putting on traditional or religious dresses. The whole thing showcases an alarming level of disorganization and uncoordination. You don't see the Westerners, the Arabs, the Chinese or even the South Africans appearing this way.. The Arabs have their different tribal attires but have settled down for a general national dress for official functions. That shows some level of seriousness and organization.
