drown as vehicle plunges into River Niger

No fewer than four persons were killed yesterday when a truck in which they were travelling plunged into the River Niger. The accident occured on the Murtala Muhammed bridge, at Jamata when the Mercedes Benz truck with registration number XF113RBC conveying the traders travelling from Toto in Nasarawa State to Kabba in Kogi State reportedly pluaged into the river

The unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Kotonkarfe, Mr. Olusola Olusegun said the accident happened on Sunday night but his unit got the information around 5 am on Monday.

He said the vehicle may have run into a big pothole on the black water bridge section of Murtala Muhammed bridge and as a result the driver lost control and plunged into the river killing all the four occupants.

The commander said his men were only able to contact the relatives of the deceased through the cell phone they found on them.
He stressed that the pothole on that section of the bridge had been causing numerous accidents even as the remedial work done on the place had not helped the situation.
He called on the Federal Emergency Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) in the state to expedite action in completing the repair work on the bridge, saying that spot had claimed many innocent lives
The FRSC boss, however, warned motorists to desist from night travels, stressing that the accident would have been avoided if it was in the day time.

Night journey is not safe in Nigeria, but most important thing is that the government in charge of the road should repair the road fast and stop wasting peoples lifes.

Why are they in government if not to serve the people!!!

^^^^ So the pothole that your friend told you of was not the real issue, that it was a journey at night was?    So, what do you think? As soon as it is dark (7ish) all Nigerian roads should be cleared?? People barred from travelling anywhere when it gets dark out?

If I hit the same pothole during the day, would the night also be to blame??
