Ex Governor of Anambra State Willie Obiano and his wife Ebelechukwu were once again summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday 31 Aug 2022 for violating the terms of his release from Custody and subsequent release of his travel documents.
The former Governor had pleaded with EFCC , after his arrest at the MMI airport on the day of his handover, to release him on health grounds in order to allow him take care of serious medical conditions. He even claimed to be suffering from a terminal ailment.

Based on contrived medical reports that he submitted to the Commission, he was released and his passport handed over to him to facilitate his travel abroad for his medical surgery as claimed.

No sooner had they arrived the United States, Obiano and his family embarked on a pleasure cruise holiday, posting videos of themselves at various countries, at Boat parties and exotic bars in different locations on social media and sending out their holiday snapshots to friends in Nigeria.

The EFCC was made to look unserious in the war against corruption and pandering to the indulgences of the duo who are facing serious corruption charges which have crippled the economy of Anambra State, leaving it with a whopping debt profile of over 250 Billion Naira.The duo are alleged to have amassed choice properties and assets in ikoyi, london, USA and UAE, as well as multiple estates in Anambra state. The couple are also infamous for their outrageous and insatiable tastes in designer wears.

The couple were mandated to return to Nigeria with immediate effect or face being declared wanted with their details circulated to interpol to facilitate international assistance for their arrest. The former Governor was also subject to further interrogation by the Commission which once again mandated him to submit his travel documents for retention by the agency.
