Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has reminded Nigerians, particularly Christians, of the need to fully participate in forthcoming general election and not sit on the fence as being the case in past elections.

CAN described the 2023 general election as one valid chance and opportunity that Nigerians have to turn around the fortunes of the country for good, hence the participation of Nigerians of all demographic is required to ensure credible people are elected into political offices to run the affairs of the country.

Media aide to CAN President, Luminous Jannamike, in a statement, said CAN President, Daniel Okoh, gave the charge during the opening ceremony of second plenary meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at Sacred Heart Pastoral Centre, Oriu, Imo State.

Okoh urged the participating bishops and other senior Catholic church officials to continue to support election monitoring team set up by CAN to do a good job in the 2023 general election as they did in previous elections.

“I also request you continue to use your highly-revered positions to remind your parishioners and, indeed, all Christians of the danger of not actively participating in partisan politics, as this is where all the decisions that affect our lives, choice of worship and economy are decided,” he said.

He, however, condole with the Catholic Church faithful on the numerous kidnappings, gruesome murder of many Catholic priests and reverend sisters and senseless killings of worshippers in the sanctuary by terrorists and bandits in recent times.

“The unprecedented spate of insecurity in our nation today, calls for serious concern. We have come to a point in our national history where the value of human life has diminished abysmally. Hardly a day passes without reports of needless killings, decapitation or mutilation of human bodies.

“Thousands of civilians, and even members of law enforcement agencies, have been kidnapped, abused and murdered in cold blood. As I speak now, thousands of our fellow citizens have been held for several months and even years in one terrorist camp or another in the bush. Kidnapping for ransom has become a very lucrative criminal enterprise and it is an aberration.

“As I was growing up in the 1960s and 1970s, children were not allowed to see dead bodies. But now even the sensibilities of the children are no longer protected. All kinds of crime and wickedness are available almost for free on the social media. Nigeria now ranks high as one of the most terrorised nations of the world.

“This practice has progressively evolved over time and it has drastically reduced our national pride among the comity of nations. It is sad to note that those whose duty it is to guarantee the safety of our lives and properties appear to be helpless in the face of real threat and advancing forces of darkness eclipsing the land.

“My consolation and confidence, however, is always the fact that our Lord Jesus Christ warned us about this time and assured us also that He will not allow the gates of hell to prevail against his Church in Nigeria. It is a common knowledge that Nigeria remains a country of great potential. Our bane, over the years, has been lack of patriotic, visionary and committed leadership.”

He appreciated the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) for the support given to CAN over the years.

“From the day that CAN was formed, CSN has continued to make meaningful contributions towards achieving the purpose of the organisation.

“I am glad to inform you that the proposal made by the Catholic Church for the review of CAN constitution in order to eschew rancour and bickering during its elections has been done. This reviewed CAN constitution was approved and adopted by the emergency general assembly in February 2021, and was used to conduct the last election that was peaceful and rancour-free.

“The present leadership of CAN acknowledges and recognises the Catholic Church as the custodians of church history and, therefore, would plead that bishops be more visible in the meetings and other activities of CAN, at all levels, in order to provide the necessary leadership, guidance and stability,”
he said.

Vote OBIDATTI.

Don't allow them use tribal divisions cause you another 4 years suffering. Those trying to deceive you are being paid in dollars. They are part of the reason for high dollar naira exchange. If you join them to mortgage your future, while you don't have money to spend in the harsh economy, they will be spending theirs and travelling around the world.

Allowing tribalism becloud your sense of reasoning is giving room to enslavement.
Don't listen to their fake promises and do not be deceived by the gifts they want to use and deceive you.

In your country, students cannot school comfortably without cultists dealing with them. There is high occultism, sex for grade, money for grade and other vices. Their children cannot school in Nigeria in their quest to escape those vices. But they come to higher same gangs to win elections. Their children spend the best of money in biggest clubs in Europe and even wash their hands with costly champagne.

They do not seek medical attention in Nigeria because they know that expert doctors have flee to other countries. How long will you be praying to japa to go and become slave in other countries? Everyday your people abroad snap beautiful pictures to intimidate you. As if they are in heaven while you are in hell. Is it not about time you too started taking similar pictures to humble them. Why do you think it's difficult baba mi?

You cannot farm in peace again. You cannot travel in peace again. The possibility of you dieng prematuredly is daily flashing in your eyes. Tribalism or religion will not save you my brother. Your PVC is your power. If you vote the old order, they will assume it's business as usual and reinforce the same stealing. If you vote out the old order, even the new order will be afraid of what you can do and will behave properly. A word is enough for the wise.

VOTE WISELY.

CAN is just catching cruise, all of them are the same, the only difference they have is the name of their political parties, zero ideology, zero patriotism and nationalism, I wonder how someone that is fighting for the actualization of BIAFRA would unite the country. Go and vote for your demon in peace

Youths like Yeye Bello, Dimeji Bankole, pako gada desmond E-diot? Even Gowon when he became HoS was a youthand he messed up the country after the civil war with the oil boom?
And Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Joe Biden, Trump, George Bush Snr are not youths are they? Nevertheless Nigerians are praying and fasting to japa to these countries, why?
You should get youths as your LGA councillor, chairman, state lawmaker, representative etc to complement and act as checks & balance to the executive.

You don't know what you are talking about concerning the liar called OBi who is pretending to be another stingy saint like Tinubu packaged Buhari in 2015, only to show us his true a-looter colours once he arrived in Aso Rock.

Peacemaker5128:
THE pan-Yoruba socio- organisation, Afenifere, has urged Nigerians to disregard information from any social media account claiming to belong to Pa Ayo Adebanjo.

The organisation’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, said in a statement on Sunday that the Twitter account which some electronic and online media quoted from did not belong to Adebanjo or any of the Afenifere leaders.

“It is hereby being clearly stated that Chief Adebanjo has no social media account of any sort, be it Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.

“Whenever he has anything to say to the public, he does so directly by addressing the press, through an interview or a press statement. He also addresses the public through the Secretary General or the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere,” Ajayi said.

It's interesting that CAN did not mention any names.

They just said the election is an opportunity to turn Nigeria's fortune around and you assume that they are talking of Peter Obi...

Which means you are well aware that your candidate is NOT the one they are talking about.

So your candidate is well known as lacking the capacity to turn the country's fortunes around?

And you still support them.

Judgement rest upon you
