Ndigbo Progressive Movement Warns Against Oct 1st Rally in Lekki

September 14, 2022

" Peaceful co-existence in Lagos must not be destroyed "

Supporters and Members of the Labour Party Presidential Candidate have been warned not to embark on the planned rally on October 1st in Lekki Lagos..

The warning was handed down on Wednesday by the National president of the group,Mazi Akuna Uche Aloysius in a press release made available to journalists in Lagos, stressing that the planned rally and the threat of a counter rally by some other groups will ultimately affect the peaceful atmosphere in Lagos as well as co-existence of all ethnic nationalities residing in the state of aquatic splendour.

Mazi Akuna equally restated that the planned rally at the Lekki Toll gate will be a sad reminder of the unfortunate mayhem that happened two years ago ,which unfortunately led to destruction of life and property by some misguided youth.

According to Mazi Akuna " we want to warn these faceless characters to stop this planned rally as it's an attempt to cause another mayhem in this state. We won't fail to call the attention of those in authority not to allow the state be thrown into mayhem, using political campaign to achieve their inordinate ambitions. "

Furthermore " the mayhem unleashed on Lagos in October 2020 is still yet to heal,so converging at the place for any political engagement now is tantamount to playing on the graves of those supposedly murdered at the Lekki as well as the police officers and men killed in line of their official duties. Lagos is yet to get it fully back from the wanton destruction of that incident..", Mazi said.

Conclusively, the group urged the police to ensure that such ill conceived rally does not hold ,to prevent a repeat of the madness that characterized the ENDSARS debacle in Lagos state..

2023: Peter Obi dragged to court over proposed rally in Lagos

By Tobi Benson Last updated Sep 11, 2022

THE Presidential candidate of the Labour party Peter Obi has been summoned to appear before a Lagos State High Court over a planned rally at Lekki toll gate on October 1, 2022, ahead of next year’s election.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba and seven others were also asked to make appearances.

A document exclusively made available to our reporter yesterday evening by one of the plaintiffs said the purpose was to prevent the occurrence of the 2020 #Endsars protest in Lagos.

According to the suit, Obi, Labour Party, Sanwo-Olu and others did not put the peace and lives of Nigerians at heart considering the occurrence and the memory of the last mass action.

The suit was said to have been filed by some concerned citizens who are lawyers basically to prevent further breakdown of law and order in Lagos State under the guise of the rally.

A section of the suit reads ” everywhere is tensed and care must be taken with the manner with which political parties and their supporters go about promoting their candidates”

” On the 10th of August, 2022 the supporters of Obi and Labour Party put up a well-circulated publication to undertake a rally on the 1st of October, 2022 titled #obidatti forward ever rally” to converge at Lekki toll gate which has already been tagged #Endsars arcade by some people.

” We have sued the Labour Party and its candidates, Lagos State government, LCC and Security agencies to ensure the planned rally does not hold as same may cause another crisis in the state.

“We are seeking a restraining order of a court in this regard”.

The suit dated September 9, was titled “Originating Summons brought pursuant to section 6(6)(1) of the constitution of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended) section 4 of the Police Act 2020 section (3) of the National Security Agencies Act cap N74 section 1(3) of the Terrorism ( prevention & Prohibition Act 2022 orders 3, rule 6, of the Federal High Court ( civil procedure ) rules 2019 and under the inherent jurisdiction of the court”.

What is wrong with this Peter Obi. It now appear as if he's carried away with the social media frenzy.

Anybody planning a rally or whatever it is should have a serious rethink. The security situation in the country is more than enough reason for anybody planning whatever to desist from such plan.

I'm sure if or when they hold that rally, and things go south, this same Peter Obi and his cronies will be the ones blaming the government for what they use their hands to cause.

Sorry oo. Go south as how?. I'm trying to understand why they shouldn't do any rally there. And what's the business of the Igbo concerned group or whatever in the affair of a political party ?
