2023: Labour Party Will Revisit Issue Of Sacked Workers In Kaduna - Asake by Jatuski: 1:46pm On Sep 21, 2022 |
Reprieve may have come for thousands of workers sacked in Kaduna State, as the Labour Party governorship candidate, Hon Jonathan Asake has promised to revisit and address the issue squarely in order for justice to prevail. Asake spoke on Tuesday, at a One-Day Agenda Setting Dialogue organised by Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, in Kaduna for governorship candidates to intimate the electoral of their governance blueprint. A press statement by Asake's media assistant, James Swam, highlighted that traditional rulers, teachers and other civil servants who lost their jobs under the current administration and were yet to be paid their gratuity and pension would smile as soon as Labour Party takes over government. "Our government will revisit the issue of sacked civil servants to ensure justice is done," Asake told the audience. He said usually benefits must be set aside before the exercise to avoid throwing families into unprepared, difficult times." The Labour Party governorship candidate also promised to fight insecurity ravaging the state, lamenting that a situation where bandits and kidnappers have taken over villages in local governments like Birnin Gwari, Chikun, Kajuru, etc. demanding payments from farmers was unacceptable. Asake stated that "a leader must have the political will to fight crime in society to stem the tight of criminality", adding that his government can spent ten million naira to unravel a crime of one thousand naira to make society a better place. He said as a government, education and agriculture would be subsidized to encourage enrolment and also boost agricultural outputs because they are the bedrock of any society. The governorship candidate also promised that his government will put in place policies to cater for people with disabilities and special needs, and to also ensure regular programs were organised to "build the capacity of women and youths for them to add value to the society." The Partnership for Issues-Based Campaign in Nigeria (PICaN) supported by Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL/FCDO) in collaboration with Legal Awareness for Nigeria Women (LANW) organized the agenda setting dialogue with governorship candidates to deliberate on citizens' groups agenda and candidates' blueprint towards agreeing on developmental commitments in key sectors.
