His submissions were apt and related to usual classical theories in economics but he overlooked the cost push inflation informed or caused by Fulani herdsmen and suicidal border closures by Buhari amongst others.

I disagree! One thing with economics and finance is that there are so many ways to solve the same problem. Since everyone is dumping the Naira to purchase USD; then creating artificial scarcity with lenders liquidity is one way to arrest the Naira free fall.
That’s why in Economics we are faced with so much advantages and disadvantages of some economic terms.

This sounds great. But I remember in 2008 global meltdown Nigeria was largely unaffected adversely which made me to asked then if Nigeria was part of the global economy and its dictates. Your suggestion may work elsewhere but not in Naija

The comissioner is right. Emefiele is trying to solve a fundamentally fiscal policy problem with monetary policy. The major problems causing rampant inflation and weighing down the naira is insecurity that has made many farmers to abandon their farms, crude oil theft that is so bad that Nigeria cannot even meet its OPEC quota leading to reduced foreign exchange earnings, our reliance on imported petroleum products due to failure of NNPC Refineries etc.

The Nigerian economy is already dead.. What we are seeing is the paining resurrection of the economy.. Just wait first.. your sub National borrowing cost will soon skyrocket..

Rubbish..

See your life?

The CBN aider of fiscal recklessness

Now want to use monetary policy measures to cure fiscal recklessness that they aided and abetted in the first place

Since June 2015 when Buhari began determining the value of the Naira, the economy has gone bananas. Next year, he'll be gone and the CBN would be able to do its job without interference.

Emefiele was a mere deposit mobilizer at Zenith Bank before they made the dunce a CBN Governor.
He started by the ban on crypto trade to abokifx to other stupid means.
All Emefiele's actions which were challenged in court have been upturned. All of them.

The best way to punish Emefiele is to ensure that his salaries, allowances and same for all CBN staff are paid in Enaira. That way, he will think well before promoting rubbish.

That’s why in Economics we are faced with so much advantages and disadvantages of some economic terms.

A lot of supposed experts lacked knowledge of the Nigerian economy. They are textbook experts.

CBN issue is not inflation but capital importation given the structure of the Nigerian economy. The Nigerian economy is a petrol-dollar economy. Meaning, we export crude oil and generate dollars necessary to service the Nigerian economy that imports over 90% of what it consumes.

However, with the developed and emerging nations raising interest rates to curb rising inflation rates, capital inflow into the Nigerian economy will automatically drop. US, UK, etc are now paying better interest rates with lesser risk compared to Nigeria.

With Nigerian crude oil production at a record low of about 900, 000 barrels per day, down from over 2 million barrels per day. Nigeria needs to sustain capital inflow (dollars) or the economy will tank. In fact, the exchange rate could hit N1000/US$. It was the main reason they had to take a drastic step like paying Tompolo to oversee the security of the pipeline.

Inflation is not the priority but economic growth. If the CBN can lure investors to invest in the economy and up crude oil production, it would be able to flood the Nigerian market with enough dollars that will prop up the value of the naira against its global counterparts and rein in inflation rate (since it is cost-push inflation).

Was it Tinubu that thumbprinted on the ballot, millions of votes that brought Buhari into power? For your info, Tinubu has only one vote, it is the electorates from different geopolitical zones that decide.

The present CBN Governor has loads of degrees but lack common sense. How can the present fiscal policies stimulate the economy? As soon as you increase interest on lending, it directly affects prices of Goods and Services.
