Well, the man could have ended the strike by increasing fees to a million naira minnium

Which you would not have liked, but would have helped to solve the funding issue...which is the main reason why ASUU goes on strike.
why wouldn’t they increase it? When useless ministers, useless aides and useless senators earn double of that? They should divide their earnings, use that and fund education (ASUU). Problem solved.

Chaiii..
These fools plan to use the strike for campaign!??

Nigerians forget very fast..... Some stupid parents and their children will still vote for the broom party, forgetting how miserable they made them in the last 8 months.

Nigerians deserve what they get.... You can't pray to be like Canada and reason like a primitive pygmy in the jungles of Congo.

So, how would you solve the problem if you were in charge...and no I am no APC supporter.

ASUU has been on strike because of bad funding for universites. Universites are badly funded largely because , and this is before corruption comes in, fees are 'kept low'. That means they cannot fund themselves easily.

At the end, whatever government you vote...they have to find far more money than Nigeria has at the moment to adequately fund education. And it would come from higher fees...which you don't want...or taxing everyone ...which you would call evil.

South Africa charges high fees, and only sponsors students who come from houses that earn below a certain amount...the really really poor.

P.S APC government is bad, I agree. But the fact that ASUU has been going on strike since 1973, and frequently since 1992 tells me a lot of things...

Sensible comment so far. It would even be nice if the FG wave off a whole session school fees
EngrXrix:

Apologies is not enough. There should be some sort of compensation. Maybe allowing them not to pay a semester school fees would suffice.

Apologies ?
What effect has it 9n undergraduates that died due to the senseless unnecessarily prolonged strike ?
Like Unilorin students that died in a fuel laden bus while going home due to strike
Or the Ogbomosho receptionist lady that was kidnapped and killed with her boss?
That's among several others.
Failed leadership with bad direction.

Direct your anger to the people that are always calling the strike:ASUU. They will still strike again next year and still get paid for doing no work. It has be one a habit

At best, doing that would only raise earnings for universites by 500 million...when universites need ten times, no twenty times that.

Cut down the cost of governance... Use the money to fund their lavish lifestyles to solve important issues.

Start from there

Yeah it sounds like a nice solution, until you get that reducing the cost of governance would at best not add much to the universites.(By my estimate, 500 million naira. Which would do some, but won't do everything)

(And off topic, but government owns lots of primary and secondary schools. They need money too)

At the end, whoever you support....sane countries fund their universites by high fees and , or, by taxing every economically active adult in the country.(we tax just 30% of our economically active adults.)

They are trying to do all they can to keep the students in school, watch how they will make movement nearly impossible then

But everyone will surprise them!

ASUU call off the strike because of the court verdict or they reached an agreement with FG?
many agreement as being meet. Not all but over 80% of it for long time, the problem is FG said they will not pay salaries for the time spend at home why ASUU say no that is the battle, that sit everyone’s down for long

The cause cannot be solved by strike sir. Both govt and universities have to work together. Universities must be transparent, accountable and self sufficient. But no they rejected autonomy, rejected IPPIS and want 100 funding from govt. That is not what the law says tho. ASUU has been striking in every administration since 1999

I won't want to believe that until they're voted out because Nigerians are allergic to good governance.

Give people the basics and see wonders...

1. Safe and good Roads

2. Electricity - at least 20hrs

3. Health

4. Active Security force and Justice system

Tax them anything you want, hike school fees anyhow... These 4 basics covered.... Watch this country flourish

The way forward now is not to be evil again to ASSU, because all this issues can be manage if Ego was not involved from the start of the strike. Government should always be proactive in national issues.
