Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) on Monday said Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has exposed himself as someone who habours disdain for Southerners.


Atiku at parley in Abuja organised by Arewa Joint Committee, Atiku, who is from Adamawa State in the North- East urged Northerners not to vote for Yoruba and Igbo presidential candidates in the 2023 presidential election.

He said the North does not need an Igbo on Yoruba president, but “someone from the North.”

Atiku stressed: “I have traversed the whole of the country… This is what the Northerner needs. He (Northerner) doesn’t need a Yoruba candidate, or an Igbo. This is what the Northerner needs. I stand before you as a pan-Nigerian of Northern origin.”

However speaking with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Sagay said just like it is happening in the PDP, Southerners will be treated as second class citizens if Atiku becomes president.


He said "Atiku has finally exposed himself. He has displayed the true content of his mind. He has demonstrated the level of contempt, hatred and disdain he has for Southerners".

"His statement buttresses Wike’s insistence that the Southerners should be better represented in the hierarchy of the PDP because from what you can see now, Atiku has contempt for the South. He doesn't want them in any position of responsibility or authority".

" So, the whole thing must have been deliberate, it wasn't an accident when they made sure that only northerners hold the most important positions in PDP."

"What it portends for the country is that if Atiku wins, the South will be in severe trouble. It will be a severe affliction on the South if he wins because we should be ready to accept subordinate positions and positions of servants in the Federation; subservient to our leaders who must come from the north".

The Northern Elders Forum spokesperson Hakeem Baba-Ahmed who coincidentally is the elder brother of the Labour Party Vice Presidential candidate asked Atiku Abubakar the question below verbatim.

"Your Excellency, Northerners are watching you now, in the next few days they will hear or they will see you. Please tell the Northerners why out of all the Presidential candidates they should trust you not anybody else with their votes and their trust and why you are the best candidate that can lead Nigeria and the North through changes. Please speak to the Northerners directly."

That was the question from the Northern elders Forum spokesperson. Remember they organised the event and as such asked the question to know Atiku's plan for the North.

Atiku Abubakar in his smartness answered the above question below, verbatim:

"Well, Mallam Northerner, ohh Madam Northerner(he smiled), I have been in politics now for three decades, (Prof. Ango was whispering something and Atiku picked his statement) for 35 years and I have traversed the whole of this country, I know the whole of this country, I have built bridges across this country. I think what the average Northerner needs is somebody who is from the North and also understands other parts of Nigeria and who has been able to build bridges across the rest of the country. This is what the Northerner needs. He doesn't need a yoruba candidate or an Igbo candidate, this what the Northerner needs. So I believe, I stand before you as a Pan Nigerian of Northern origin. Thank you very much."

Atiku Abubakar in the above clearly reminded the Northern elders that he is although a Northerner but not a candidate of the North because he has built bridges in every part of Nigeria.

Atiku Abubakar reminded the North that his candidature is not just for the North but for Nigeria as a whole!

If by peradventure Atiku wins, secessionist agitations would turn very violent in the south and middle belt. Imagine a Fulani taking over from a Fulani? That's the reason for the sudden close relationship between him and Buhari to the extent that he represented Buhari at Yusuf's wedding as his father. The current mass migration in the Muslim north from APC to PDP is also an indication that they want to dump the party for the agbado master. The only thing that they didn't see coming was the Peter Obi tsunami and it would sweep them away. Tribal politics gave us the disaster called Buhari and it's time we drop all forms of tribal politics to save our selves from it to end all these suffering. Buhari spent eight years talking about cows, Atiku would steal lands for cows. That is not what this country needs now, even northern farmers are crying.
