I remember that the minister of labour says we shouldn't worry about Nigerian doctors leaving to other countries at all. In fact it is a welcome development as these guys in diaspora will make returns to develop the Nigerian economy. Moreover he added that the country’s universities will continue to produce thousands of doctors on yearly basis that will meet our health care needs.

The new doctors will just graduate and travel too

This is heart breaking. Soon only 5000 doctors will be left in Nigeria going by this current trajectory.
We can never run out of doctors. We can only run out of competent doctors. Thousands of graduates are being churned out by our universities yearly

So Nigeria still has upto 24000 doctors? I think NMA don't have there facts correct it should not be upto that and I know if obi doesn't win it might reduce to 4725 and those ones are those already weak and the quota system doctors who could not pass other countries professional board exam.
Those who chose to stay didn't stay because they couldn't pass any exams. Some stayed because they run their own private practices or other businesses and are doing fine. Some stayed because of other reasons best known to them. You don't have to write any exam to practice in countries like Saudi Arabia where the least doctors' salary is at least 4 to 5 times what obtains in Nigeria.

This report is not correct, did he consider the number of people who doesn't visit hospital in a year? Who just pick some drugs from pharmacy and they are ok.

Now the solution is simple

You can use Taxes and study in Nigeria , then go Abroad .

People who go to federal school should be made to stay at least 5 years after graduation before their certificate is released

They contribute their quota before you japa simple

This will pay for the taxes you used from the federal purse.

The cost to study medicine abroad is in your pocket and not subsidised by the govt.
Did you read the news? There are many factors responsible for the emigration, not just cos of low renumeration. The work you were saying is part of the problems, as house job is not readily available, and some fresh medical graduates emigrate for this. Also, some just have to emigrate to preserve their mental health. Imagine ur patients dying cos of unavailability of simple medical equipment, when you have the capacity to care for them. You can't force people to work in a toxic environment. All these solutions you guys like proffering is not something u just wake up, and do cos other country are doing it.

Maybe that is why Thiefnuibu was emboldened to nominate Boko Haram governor as running mate for his muMURIC Muslim/Muslim ticket?

When you do the arithmetic it gives you one doctor to more than 8 thousand patients. EIGHT THOUSAND!!!

Its about experience.....medical practice deals a lot with experience. A practicing neurosurgeon of 15 years, is not the same with a fresh doctor graduate, so if the 15 years experienced neurosurgeon leaves the country we have not only lost a neurosurgeon, but his 15 years experience also. And in this country there are some fields of medicine that they are only very few doctors in practice there

Nigeria should make medical education more expensive. Makes no sense to be given very subsidized education only for the beneficiary to use that training to go to another country where medical education is expensive and be of use there. While the country that subsidized the education ends up losing.

What did you expect when you treat your health workers with disdain. You worship the politicians and threat Doctors and Nurses like they don't count, pay them peanuts for the services they render and withholding some of their entitlement.. They will surely migrate to where they are appreciated and paid well for services rendered.

Fact here is that medical education here is cheap compared to foreign countries. Medical education in the US is at least 20 thousand dollars yearly. While the FG subsidizes it to about 60 thousand yearly for Nigerian students. Now these students who benefited leave and be of use to another country. That is totally unfair to the country that gave almost free medical education.
