For clarity i used to smoking and now being a born again anytime I remember those periods, I always feel bad.

Bro , you shouldn't have seen it again. It seems you still don't believe in God's word. The bible says "if anyone is in Christ he had become a new creature old things had passed away"

God would not judge you with your past after you had forsaken it and asked for forgiveness.

Sir, but then, the story of the prodigal son comes to mind, Peter and Paul comes to mind, they sinned yet they were forgiven, are you saying these ones suffered the consequences of their sins??

Hebrews 8:10-12

I think the forgiveness of sin is underrated.
If God remembers not their sins again, how then will he remember to give them consequences. Isn't that inconsistent?
Yes, there are some actions that can bring consequences but even that, God seeks save us from the consequences. Is it not the consequences of sin God has saved us from in the first place through Jesus.

John 3:17-18

I strongly believe God did not just save us from living in sin but from the consequences of sin.
what was the sin of the prodigal son?
You can't bring the illustration of Christ as a sin against God.

Peter was only instrumental to the crucification of Christ based on the prophecy.
The prophecy must be fulfilled.
What happened to Peter was supernatural, Peter was not in control of himself when he denied Christ. So it can't and was never counted as a sin.

Saul to Paul was blinded.
Go and study further about the ordeals of Paul.
From how he was persecuted to how he died.

In God's kingdom .. everyman must be judged according to his works.

Because he is a God of Justice.

The blood of Jesus cleanses and purifies you of your sins. But that does not take away the punishment.

What is this past of yours that's hunting you.?

Whatever your past is that's hunting you, then such is begging for restitution.

Go and restitute.

If it's something you can't restitute, meet with those that are presently doing same and preach repentance to them.

Sin is like a load if you don't confess, you'll still feel the weight, devil needs to hear you disagree and reject inorder to stop reminding you the past. What you need to do is confess to a True Man of God from a geniune heart, and allow GOD to forgive you.

Wow!

Okay.

The end point of it all is that we get to know Him the more.
I'll only pray that our eyes see Him more clearly to know Him for ourselves as He is.✌

You're feeling bad because the devil is trying to put guilt into you. The moment you gave your life to Christ, He forgave and wiped your past sins. Pondering on your past deeds is the devil making you believe that the Lord hasn't done so.

Given your previous example, I would say you're mixing things up. Are you trying to say even when one becomes born again he'll suffer for the wrong he did when he was a sinner?

Then your example of David didn't even help because he was already walking with God when he committed murder. Despite the murder, God still called him His friend. God didn't kill him like your initial statement sounded (that you'll get whatever you did).

Now, my example of Saul of Tarsus: Saul's blindness was as a result of his encounter with Christ. Even if you still say he was made blind because of his atrocities, at that point he was not born again. Everything he suffered from the point he received his sight was for the gospel and not because of his past life. Again, God didn't kill him for killing Christians.

Please, stop mixing things up. The bible encourages us to help build the faith of our brothers when they're weak not to put the spirit of fear in them.

Modified:

Even though the Bible says:
Galatians 6:7 (KJV) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

The Bible also says:
Hosea 10:12 (KJV) Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

You have a better chance of obtaining God's mercy when you walk with Him than when you walk in the way of the world.

@Redomi, this modified part above is my point. There's a difference between Knowing Bible stories, Reading the Bible and studying the Bible. 3 different levels.

There is consequence and there is punishment

Anyone who sins will face the consequence but may escape the punishment

Whatever you do is what you will reap in this world, don't know about heaven judgement, but I'm very sure that you'll get whatever you did.

Your statement would be complete if you add "when you're a sinner"

2 Cor. 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Note: There's no past. So what would haunt you na?

2 Corinthians 7:2
Make room for us in your hearts. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have exploited no one.

Despite 'Saul' turned Apostle Paul's persecution of the children of God; holding clothes for those who stoned Steven, tells you he has wronged no man. That's because he knows when he repented and was baptized, he became free.

Pray to God to rid you of any guilt. Paul an apostle of the Lord in who was the Spirit of the Most High didn't feel guilt even after the many atrocities he'd committed while he was a sinner.

Even if the whole world repents, the sacrifice of Jesus is an everlasting legality that will atone and blot away any quantity or quality by any person or people as far as this earth remains .If you have confessed it,and done restitution (where necessary)
Then renew your mind with scriptures to counter lies by the devil that your past still has legal power over you.Because what such is set to achieve is to make God's forgiving power to be too small to forgive your "too big" a sin.1 John1:9 deals with that.Cut any links, delete numbers, with the former.Stand until that voice dies. Its called the accuser of the brethren.God bless you.You will surely win in Jesus name.
Re: As a Christian How Will You Handle This by Ceufinish: 7:40pm On Oct 23, 2022
If u confess your sins and ask God for forgiveness, he forgives you and you are justified. Thus do not allow the devil to make you feel guilty or allow your past to haunt you.

Hebrews 10:17 KJV says And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

On the issue of paul, he suffered persecution which is suffering for righteousness sake not because of what he did before he became a Christian. Other Christians in d early church also suffered persecution

Romans 4 :7, 8 AMPLIFIED

Blessed and happy and favored are those whose lawless acts have been forgiven,
And whose sins have been covered up and completely buried.
8
“Blessed and happy and favored is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account nor charge against him.”
Re: As a Christian How Will You Handle This by Mom007(f): 8:17pm On Oct 23, 2022
If God can and does forgive our sins who are we not to forgive ourselves? We only take Gods forgiveness for granted when we continue in sin. Repent genuinely and forsake your sins, pray God to forgive you and try to forgive yourself. Christ makes us new creatures and old things, our old lives inclusive, are passed away.
P.S, that God forgives us doesn't mean we are absolved from the consequences of our actions... So its best to avoid wrong doing if you can.

It depends.

If it is sin(s), it is either against God or against Man.

If it is against God (Disobedience to His Eternal Laws), grief it in your soul, seek forgiveness and resolve within you that you won't do it again and don't do it again. God is Ever Merciful and Forgiving. He will forgive.

If it against Man/Woman, what you took, can it be returned? If yes, return it and seek their forgiveness. If not, (there are things is taken or stolen that can't be returned like honour etc) if you can compensate, do it and beg their forgiveness and God's forgiveness too.

Then move on with your life, God will forgive. Whatever you must done to wrong your own soul is not up to what the Children of Israel did and Gid forgives

Sorry, there are Bible passage to support what I wrote, but I no get time to reference them.

Cheers. Between I am a Muslim

Restitution is what you are just talking about but may I ask? What if it was an abortion, murder etc how will the person seek forgiveness? God knows that no human has the capacity to live a righteous life on his own for that reason Jesus Christ came. He takes the sinful nature of man and in return gave man salvation not bases on men's work but based on his finished work on the Cross through faith, If his past is hunting him it's because his mind is not renewed to the reality of who he is in Christ and what Christ has accomplished on his behalf. There are consequences of sin no doubt but when he comes to the full understanding of who he is in Christ Jesus then those consequences will no longer be a burden to him. "Cast all your burdens to him.... For he cares for you"

My advice: Let him continue to study the words of God in the Bible especially the new Testament which is the revelation of the Misteries in the old testament and the eyes of his understanding will be flooded with light. More emphasis on the book of Romans. Shalom

Read again I was not talking about Restitution alone. In seeking forgiveness, Three (3) things are required.

1. Acknowledging a wrong
2. Restitution
3. Seek forgiveness.

Do these Three and you will be forgiven. If God knows no human can leave a righteous life, then God must make the means to turn in repentance to Him easy and readily available to these crawling and falling man.

And if you insist that it is true a vicarious atonement sin and wrongdoings can be corrected, you erred for Mankind have been sinning well beyond the 2,000 years ago that supposedly sacrifice took place

And no let us examine Abortion/Murderer.

Abortion is a Sin against God for you knowingly kill a soul. So, how do one repent from such?

1. Genuinely grieve in your soul/heart. ( The Bible say a " contrite heart"wink

2. No Restitution here because you can't possibly pay/give back the foetus live.

3. Then seek God's forgiveness and have a firm resolve not to do it again and don't do it again! Them continue to live your life and when this episode crosses your mind as it will often do, go back to step one and step three.

As for a Murder, I would say you give yourself up to the Authority and let them decide your case but still seek God's forgiveness and constantly grieve the episode in your heart.

Then it is was lie you told, or you backbites, abuse etc earnestly, grieve it in your heart, do restitution ( own up to your lies/give up the advantage/s of the action and seek God's forgiveness and don't do it again!

I am not here to argue about what the book of Romans or any other books says, I will also advise that you read the Bible thoroughly and see that what I highlighted are the steps to forgiveness.

May you know peace!
