I have been wondering why dollar has gained more value rapidly, so our politicians have gotten the info before hand.
They have been changing their stored naira to hard currency to avoid going to bank with trailers to change their old naira notes.

The era of dollars is over. They spend dollars during the primaries.

Now is the era of naira notes for poverty stricken vote sellers.
From now till the dead line, I think their stashed Naira notes will do their bidding. My thoughts though

Mehn, this December no go dirty at all.
Imagine going to the bank to deposit N10m, CBN will now charge you 3% on N9.5m for exceeding the deposit limit of N.5m.
The cash crunch go choke.

Please ooooo, I am not an Economics but I would want someone to explain to me in a layman's term the importance of this Currency Re-design in this present Nigeria that our economy is dancing skelewu.

Isn't this a misplaced priority as we have other things to tackle in the nation?

it doesnt have any meaningful impact on the economy...

i suspect the CBN lost control of bandits who clone monies..i strongly bliv a group of criminals successfully cloned tge naira and area bout to pour it into the system..hence they try to beat them to mk it irrelevant.....

but economically,it has no impact on the economy...but let it b known to u..that it is now a tging if tradition that every cBN governor leave a signature currency to remember him...that is exactly what this is meant for

I guess part of the strategies is to mop up notes that may have been stored for the purpose of buying votes in the coming elections

I think its new strategy to somehow contain the imminent overflow of cash during the elections by our politicians? Again, I say I think.

People don't have food to eat but you are wasting money to print new currency instead of creating jobs.
I know it's just a way to steal money through printing contract.

By the way, I still have upto 30k with me here in abroad, the one I share remain baggers they employ as staff at the airport, what will I now do??
Was hoping I would use it to get a taxi anything am coming back to Nigeria
I find this funny but I feel you, don't know if you're allowed to DHL currency back home ..I know many travellers would be facing similar fate .. remind me of a man tipping people 50Naira with pride at the airport.

Yeah, really hmmm, way Nigeria imposes policy are really primitive, imagine exchanging currencies in circulation with over 220 million population within 3 months, such policies in a civilized clime needs nothing short of a year or two, England will for example print new notes with king Charles, but the Queens notes remains valid till end of 2024,

This whole thing is a ruse.
The real thing Emefiele is desperately trying to do is to mop up the 23 trillion naira he and Buhari illegally printed in their idiotic economic revival strategy.

Unfortunately, their foolhardiness has plunged our naira into severe devaluation, and skyrocketed inflation.

This man is complaining of the doubling of money in circulation in just a few years. But he has been the central bank Governor during this period in question.

Who doubled it Was he not the one

Well I hope Nigerians won't have to suffer more for his actions and his own mistakes.

In other words, the plan is to force people to deposit money they're keeping at home in the banks. I suspect they're doing this to strengthen the banks, the naira, or to do something about the ongoing inflation. But what do I know? The economists are the experts here. So Narialand economists, over to you.

It's a political move attached to economical move.
The immediate impact is on our politicians who has gathered billions in their houses for 2023 election.
