The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State, Rep. Sam Onuigbo, has been listed on the “Top 100 Nigeria Environmental Professionals List” in recognition of his contributions to a healthy and sustainable environment.

The federal lawmaker’s inclusion was attributed to his sponsorship of Nigeria’s landmark Climate Change Act; advocacy efforts including through his leadership of Global Legislators Organisation for a Balanced Environment(GLOBE) in Africa and Nigeria and the Climate Parliament network in Nigeria; his support for young climate activists; efforts at climate change adaptation in his constituency; etc.

Onuigbo, whose dogged commitment birthed Nigeria’s Climate Change Act 2021 with provisions for a Climate Change Fund, net zero transition, nature-based solutions, high-level governance structure, and inter-ministerial cooperation, has been hailed globally for his unrelenting commitment towards addressing environmental issues.

The list made available to the media by Environment Africa Magazine revealed that the astute lawmaker emerged alongside the former Minister of State for Environment and current Minister of State for Niger Delta, Chief Sharon Ikeazor, Professor Oladele Osinbajo, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun, Hamzat Lawal, Professor Chukwumerije Okereke, Olumide Idowu, among others.
