How would you prioritise Nigeria's problems, Security before Economy? President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday called on the three tiers of government to work in harmony and place economic issues on the front burner of their administrations. http://www.livenigeriapost.com/2011/08/22/the-economy-is-priority-one-jonathan/ |

Nigeria can not move forward till curruption is eliminated. Security in Nigeria is a joke because the security apparatus from police and beyond is corrupt, the economy is lousy because of corrupt governmen officials including GEJ himself and our society in general. GEJ is playing games and distracting us with these silly talk about the economy, ccrrupt governmen and a corrupt society can not advance or achieve anything meaningful while the currency of choice is corruption. |

My brother, it is not possible to "eliminate" corruption. We can only tame it! Put up systems and controls that will make it difficult for corruption to thrive. I have always said that corruption is a human problem. it is there everywhere you look even in USA, UN and the rest of the world! The only day corruption will be eliminated is when the world comes to an end. What we need is to develop "corruption proof" systems and this takes a long time to achieve. In the short term, we have to focus on things like Power (Electricity), Security, Education, Agriculture, Health, etc which all contribute directly to the economy while we develop sustainable systems to check corruption. If we focus on "eliminating" corruption, we will go nowhere! |

Corruption in the US and in Nigeria are a million miles apart, please let's not get carried away with the needless comparisons, America is still a country with strong judicial and law enforcement institutions where corrupt governmen officials hardly get away with corruption. I even dare you to show me any untouchable corrupt American. Governors, senators and big public figures go to jail in America. Nigeria as a society is corrupt from the messenger to the president. How many billions have we thrown at the power sector? Dozens of billions and we at still at square one. Is the government spending more money on electricity going to prevent the corrupt folks in government and the generator barons from sabotaging all our efforts? Are the same corrupt people not sabotaging our refineries just to be able to give subsidized fuel import license to their cronies to keep milking the treasury? And is GEJ oblivious or clueless about these obvious problems? Throwing money at anything in Nigeria is like throwing ice cubes at the sun. Every project is designed to be inflated, shortchanged and doomed from the get go with the money ending up in the pockets of the same people peddeling the contracts within the government. Country first is still not part of our make up and it reflects in everything we do, we are too corrupt and unpatriotic to do good for our country and that we have to fight and correct first. |
