dayokanu:

Saudi 89, My favourite players were Mike Onyemachara(A name we adopted for fumbling players), Chris Ohenhen, Sam Elijah, Nduka Ugbade, Chris Nwosu, Mutiu. Osondu messed up in that tournament didnt live up to expectations

my favourite player was mutiu adepoju. favourite opponent was joao pinto.

Canada 87: Taiwo Enegwa, Dimeji Mohammed, Emodofu . Our wing play in that tournament was probably the best ever with Dimeji and Emodofu.

osondu was the mvp of the tournament - short, stocky and deadly
favourite opponent was cappellini(who i think was the best player in that tournament), moussa traore and russia's yuri nikiforov

Maroc 88. You remember Ndubusi Okosieme , Who ran 40 yards in the finals and still side netted the ball or Henry Nwosu perfect header which was disallowed, Sunday Eboigbe, I think Folorunsho Okenla or Oladunni Oyekale was there too.

nigeria vs algeria was the highlight. rabbah madjer and lakhdar belloumi.
cameroon with emmanuel kunde and roger milla. my favourite nigerian player then was humphrey edobor - a lethal left winger.

Chile 87 the ones I remembered were Adeolu Adekola, Etim Esin, John Ene Okon and Willy Okapara who was always picking tha ball out of the net

nosa osadolor(freekick specialist)
favourite opponent - alcindo, william oliveira(brazil), we couldn't even beat canada in that tournament, we drew 2-2.
naija don useless tay-tay.

but but. . . . . . .the best player i have seen in any age-grade tournament ever was marcel witeczek(german striker) - china 85
how he didn't make it in the seniors still puzzles me. he was a beast and better than everyone else in that kodak world cup.
dude was scoring goals for fun.
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread (the Night Is Darkest Just Before The Dawn) by dayokanu(m): 12:32am On Oct 20, 2011
^^I remember Williams the Brazilian I think he scored a free kick against us in Chile 87.

Its hard for me to pick my fave in Saudi 89. cos Chris Nwosu goal vs Czech had me cumming for weeks.

That Pinto in Saudi 89 final, was it Joao Pinto or Sa Pinto. In Saudi 89 who remebers Bismark Farias from Brazil?

Esin was shot by robbers some weeks to the tournament cruising his 505, IBB deployed the medical Arsenal to make him fit.

Kcjazz, I saw Kasey kellers last game last weekend. Walahi I still think he is better than most keepers right now. he made an incredible triple save in the second half.

In canada 87, I wont say Osondu was the best player for me, I was more enthralled by the wing plays of Dimeji and Emodofu. That Capellini or was it Capelilli cos We nicknamed one deadly striker in my school that name.

USSR or CCCP like on their red jersey, Do you remember Oleg Salenko being part of the team? and also in Saudi 89.

Maroc 88. I remember Humphrey Edobor. I think He played the game vs Angola where okwaraji died. But my fave laft winger was Friday "Elastic" ELAHORRR I always believed he would bring some magic.

I didnt watch China 85 I just remember NTA using some highlights from the game as adverts. Remember Fatai Atere

nigga was dangerous. they kicked nigeria 4-0 on the night.

Its hard for me to pick my fave in Saudi 89. cos Chris Nwosu goal vs Czech had me cumming for weeks.

good goal, messi-esque. without that goal, we would have been kicked out.
won 2-1 against saudi, lost 0-1 to portugal. czech was supposed to be easy but they scored first and the nwosu magic equalizer saved the day

That Pinto in Saudi 89 final, was it Joao Pinto or Sa Pinto. In Saudi 89 who remebers Bismark Farias from Brazil?

bismark farias, i remember the dude. they hammered mali 5-0 or so and he got a brace.
he wears number 7 shirt.

Esin was shot by robbers some weeks to the tournament cruising his 505, IBB deployed the medical Arsenal to make him fit.

don't mind the party boy.

Kcjazz, I saw Kasey kellers last game last weekend. Walahi I still think he is better than most keepers right now. he made an incredible triple save in the second half.

it's capellini(11 shirt for italy). the guy almost broke lemmy isa's spine.
he's either overaged or too talented at that level.

USSR or CCCP like on their red jersey, Do you remember Oleg Salenko being part of the team? and also in Saudi 89.

salenko - goal machine.
the guy ran riot in the first half against nigeria.

Maroc 88. I remember Humphrey Edobor. I think He played the game vs Angola where okwaraji died. But my fave laft winger was Friday "Elastic" ELAHORRR I always believed he would bring some magic.

elahor was fire. that guy is better than ryan giggs!
he doesn't stop dribbling until he gets to the corner flag.

I didnt watch China 85 I just remember NTA using some highlights from the game as adverts. Remember Fatai Atere

i saw the final - can't remember anything vividly but i get some flashes.
all i knew was nigeria won and everyone kept talking about a weird german striker that was fearsome.

Classic!! Just the way id rather have us winning games now, no showboating just get the points, Kos and Song were on top of
their game , Nice one!

Hmm my guy santos wan fall my hand for first half, but he composed himself in the second half sha,
Plus i have to say i admire the intelligence that Arteta possesses, dude was fantastic in covering for his full backs whenever they went bombing forwrd,
Also showed great awareness off and on the ball, though sloppy at times but very consistent,

Now that Jerk is out how we wan do with Djourou nah, men na wah oh,

I also think the trick of putting under performers to the bench is also working as they seem to come off with more vibrancy, abi na psychology Baba dey use
for them?

@ jencejyde, hmmn i was just encouraged by the defending. the number of times those OM bois were handing bros Metresacker his ass was not funny, Koscielny kept on covering for him when he was deleted, which was quite often.

first defensive display this season that made sense, even if it was a bit heart in your mouth occasionally.

beat stoke, and im backing this team fully again cool cool cool cool

All,

I hail you o. Keep up the flag flying, there's no day that I dont read your posts. Thanks

@ dayokanu,

Tarila Okorowanta played for Shooting Stars. His indiscipline level then was really bad, as his behaviour was like what Etim Esin did later. He absconded to Italy when Shooting Stars went to Tunisia to play in an African Champions Cup match in 1984. He's actually a very talented dribbler in the mould of Esin and Okocha.
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread (the Night Is Darkest Just Before The Dawn) by Jencejyde(m): 5:04pm On Oct 20, 2011
@ 4ller, True that the defending was quite shaky but they held it together, as per Mertesacker, oh boy, e no go good make dem to they leave am with one on one situatons oh, E just dey show him back an dem dey give am shibobo too much, grin grin

But you fall my hand sha, shey na until we beat Stoke you go support AFC fully, no be so oh, If stoke come beat us nko?(God forbid oh!!!)
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread (the Night Is Darkest Just Before The Dawn) by coogar: 5:07pm On Oct 20, 2011
Jencejyde:

If stoke come beat us nko?(God forbid oh!!!)

arsenal will beat stoke easily. it's written in stone.

stoke are playing europa league tonight and they are always shyte after having to play in europe and going to an away ground in the league.
tony pulis doesn't even better about the league game following an outing in europe.

it's at britannia stoke will murder arsenal.
so wenger should regroup his men for some shooting practice against stoke to recoup their grotesque goals deficit.

Do you know the 3 Shooting stars players that ran away around 1995/96 when they were to play a match vs one North African team I think Edith Agoye was among them.

Re: Arsenal Fan Thread (the Night Is Darkest Just Before The Dawn) by SirKay3(m): 5:25pm On Oct 20, 2011
@ dayokanu,

I wasnt really into Shooting Stars again, after the balubalu n t'afin show of shame at the Liberty Stadium Ibadan in 1984 (Shootings Stars vs Zamalek of Egypt). In 1995/96, I was occupied with my wedding plans, so football was off my schedule then, as I was here and there.

Do you still remember these Shooting Stars Players: Olumide Harris, Ademola Bankole, Wasiu Taiwo, Kennedy Boboye, Patrick Ovie, David Ogaga, Taofeek Malik, Patrick Pascal and Bosun Ayeni to mention a few?

Same here with Andrew Uweh been my favourite player. The days when the core of our national team's from the local sides. There's no Continental or FA Cup match played in the National Stadium Surulere that i missed.Mingling with the vociferous crowd at stand F(popular side) of the stadium was fun.

it's between them and abiola babes - who be shooting in the days of wole odegbami, james etokebe, edward ansah, andrew uwe and the best striker of that decade(uwem ekarika)? leventis was doing treble without sweats - making m.k.o. abiola cry.

To the point a myth was created that Abiola Babes don't win matches when M.K.O was present to watch their matches.Abiola had some great players too like Yisa Sofoluwe,Bode Williams,Raymond King et al.

BCC Lions under Amodu's another team i love to love with Moses Kpakpo been one player i can't forget.
