i've learnt that :

men and women on nairaland will never agree on a particular thread.

your opinion counts even at another posters' expense.

posters on nairaland take posts/opinion too personal

nairawomen are easily offended by nairawomen and they come on a thread disgracing each other will all manner of insults ranging from 50k slut, ashewo, bitch, to mention just  a few

nairalanders are lonely and jobless

otherwise

I stand corrected. Without you tea sippin' brits, Nairaland would have been considerably lower than it is now.

Hmmmnn, just got to know this thread was already existing, as I had already been thinking along the line of initiating it.

I came across NL while doing some google search early last year, but I did not register as a member until some months after, and I must say I have learned a lot. I had always liked internet discussions and had been an active member of Bigsoccer forum for a while. But NL has made me literally forget all other internet discussion fora I belonged to before. Now apart from NL, ghanaweb is the other forum I visit daily, although my registration there has not been confirmed, almost a month after applying.

What have I gained/learnt in NL?
GRAMMAR CONSTRUCTION: Writing articles, long and short, has been one of my favourite activities for long, but NL has improved my skills in this art. There are a few N/landers whose choice of words, I must admit, are spellbinding. But I must say Landers are at their best when insulting or refuting an argument.
NEW WORDS I have also learnt some new words here.
ACCESS TO INTERNET I have come to know that many people have almost unrestricted, 24/7, access to internet than I thought pre-NL
NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA I've come to know that many Nigerians in diaspora are interested in and follow happenings in Nigeria
SERIOUS ISSUES I don't believe I can get serious issue resolved on NL thru open post. I send private messages to landers I believe can advise me(based on htheir antecedents-previous posts) on some issues, rather than open thread on it. Most of those threads are hijacked and the purpose defeated.
FUN Funny posts abound in NL, and I coudn't help laughing aloud in office many times
ADDICTION When I finished my service and started work, and for the first time, had unrestricted access to internet, I became more active in NL that my performance was seriously impaired.I once spent the whole office day in NL, exploring one old topic of about 50 pages, when my Manager was on leave. And as I'm typing this, 2 hours after coming to office, I'm yet to start work, still on NL. the bad side, I must say. But I'm working on disciplining myself.
