ENUGU – LEADER of Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra,MASSOB Chief Ralph Uwazulike, was yesterday, detained by the Enugu State Police Command.

Uwazulike had gone to the police headquarters with the National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, to seek the release of the more than 200 members of MASSOB arrested by security agents who could not give reasons for the arrest.

The MASSOB members were on their way to Enugu to attend the 12th anniversary of Igbo Youth Movement, IYM, which honoured the former Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, at Hotel Presidential, Enugu.

Uwazulike and Umeh left the venue of the event and headed to the Police Commissioner’s office to ascertain why members of the movement were arrested. violent.

Matters took a twist when the police decided to detain Uwazulike  for reasons best known to them.

Umeh and other Igbo leaders who went with Uwazulike, however, left the police headquarters without him.

The MASSOB members, who drove in several buses into Enugu from different parts of Igboland for the event, were apprehended by soldiers on the highways. The soldiers claimed they were instructed to stop them from entering the Coal City.

They were first taken to the headquarters of 82 Division, Nigerian Army,  after which they were handed over to the police, which detained them along with the buses at the Police Headquarters, Enugu. More than 50 others were also arrested at Hotel Presidential, venue of the ceremony by soldiers who operated in five Hilux patrol jeeps.

Some soldiers and policemen also visited the GRA residence of Ojukwu in search of the MASSOB members but sources said none of them was seen there.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, said they were apprehended based on intelligence report that they were coming into Enugu to cause havoc.

He said: “We arrested the MASSOB members who are up to 200 because we don’t know their mission to Enugu.  We were informed that they were coming to cause havoc. We have commenced investigation to ascertain their true mission to the state.”

IYM honoured Ojukwu with Igbo Icon of all times and his wife, Bianca, who returned from London for the ceremony, received the award on his behalf.

Other Igbo leaders honoured were founder of MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazulike who bagged Igbo Warrior for Selfless Sacrifice award; former Governor of Abia State and National Chairman of All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu , (Igbo Light); National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh (Igbo Hero for steadfastly extending Igbo political frontier) and former President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Igwe Justice Eze Ozobu (Onye

Osanobua ooooooooo!!! Who gave this one a job??

You arrested people because you don't know their mission? Are they foreigners?

We were informed that they were coming to cause havoc. We have commenced investigation to ascertain their true mission to the state.”

So when you eventually find they were not there to cause havoc, una go compensate them for the havoc you caused them? undecided

Don't we have some law against all these arbitrary arrests? arrest warrants? No?

Why is it that those who obey the law suffer? If they had been bombing like Boko Haram, they would have respected them.

Stop getting sentimental, in which nation is BH respected? They just get the dough.
MASSOBs are made form the same cloth as BHarams. Both are violent, to different degrees tho.

the army and police are just being proactive. how can security forces just let a bunch of massobs drive by and not grab them? if they didn't grab them and massob ends up doing something bad like Boko Haram, Nigerians would complain that they failed to act. The police need to interrogate those guys and let them go in peace if nothing smells fishy. They are Nigerians too and deserve due process.

Nigeria under the snail called GEJ is fast becoming a story told by a fool. Those who bomb, massacre, loot, pillage, violate and continue to threaten the whole public peace, this government invite for appeasement with loads of state money thrown at them. Boko Haram, rebels without cause, GEJ has been on bended kneels, begging them to come and eat like their violent counterparts in MEND. But those who copy the none violent Gandhist option, GEJ challenge for a fight. Intimidating them and humilliating their stance and whatever be their cause of anguish. While civilised governments all over the world respect none violent movements, this one repudiates them and celebrate terrorists and jihadists. It's time Nigerians start calling the derailed ship that is this government to order before it becomes too late.

i honestly dont understand the agitations of these MASSOB guys. to me they are basically noise makers.
However, its wrong for the police to hold anyone against his wish without any tangible reason.

I could not have dreamt of a day that opens access to such a ridiculous post from you. Even in the so-called God’s own country such as USA, people are threatening to secede. Civil agitation to gain nationhood by certain group of people can never amount to treason.

@Ileke idi, your hatred for the Igbos doesn't mean you should lose your judgemental faculty, you are becoming too predictable now. Take am easy abeg

the word MASSOB itself is treasonable,, for the police to claim ignorance of what they are up to or their mission in enugun is ridiculous, what else are you investigating they are separatist, agitating for biafra nation from one nigeria, their mission is loud and clear even to the blind, deaf and dumb lipsrsealed, that police spoke man need to go back for proper job trainning and the massob people arrested should be released immidiately with adequate compensation since the police have no reason to detain them except the talk of investigating,,,, investigating what ? angry,
