Now you're getting my point.
Any president that want to remove poverty in nigeria can do so the easy way.
Reduce tax, remove import restrictions and reduce tarrif seriously. Imported goods becomes very cheap it floods the markets and seriously crash food price and inflation.
Invest seriously in health and education. Infrastructure will suffer (atleast we can manage the infrastructure we have. Yes roads are poor but despite this there no where you can't reach in Nigeria, we have a very large network of roads though untarred).

When you do this Nigerians will sing your praise but Nigeria(country) will curse you.
It's like using painkillers to treat appendicitis, in the long run it'll burst and painkillers will not be enough.
But taking the hard way out just like India will result in less effect on poverty reduction with more focus on industrialization and infrastructure in the short term but on the long term it might pay off (buhari kind of policy).
Exactly my thoughts.

All at the expense of our forex reserves, and jobs in the country (mass importation means jobs get stifled in manufacturing)...and no, it won't crash prices...it would lead to increase in prices, as dollars becomes scarce, and the value of the naira drops.

No it won't have effect on jobs. How many people do manufacturing jobs employ currently? Are they up to a million?
Most Nigerians are into middlemen men(tens of millions) jobs we are either farmers or traders.
In fact large importation will increase the number of businesses and sales job in the country into millions. Many will become business men and more shops will spring up. All this till we expend our forex and becomes the new Sri Lanka or Ghana.

Like I said this is the easy way out and it's for the short term(5yrs? 10yrs?) with no long term development but doom.

We can get the money for that by removing subsides on power and petrol, and taxing everyone in this country...with the rich paying higher tax rates. We can also raise fees in universiites to fund them better.

It takes time to raise money. Proper taxation effect can take decades. Yes subsidy has a quicker effect.

Sowore ke? Though i like him, but he doesnt have the temperament of a president. To some extent, he seems to know a thing or two about good governance but he is still acting like a boy. A president needs to have a more mature posture and approach to issues..
explain d mature posture to me? As well as d approach
