Police arrest 12-year-old in Bauchi over alleged kidnap of 3-year-old

Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 12-year-old boy for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old.

This is contained in a statement issued on Saturday in Bauchi by police spokesman in the state, SP Ahmad Wakil.

He stated that the 12-year-old kidnapped the baby in Magama Gumau community in Toro Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the suspect lured the victim into an isolated area and placed a telephone call to her father demanding N150,000 as ransom for the captive’s release.

“A discreet investigation revealed that the suspect lured the victim to an isolated place near a football field at Kara Area of Magama Gumau and called the victim’s father on phone and made the demand.

On hearing the demand, the victim’s father hung up and refused to take subsequent calls.

After a while, the victim’s father called the suspect and identified him through his familiar voice.

He called his name, but the suspect kept mute, hung up, swiftly took the girl to her parent’s house where he told the family that he sighted her crying near a football field,’’ SP Wakil stated.

He added that the victim’s family immediately reported the suspect to the police for necessary action.

Wakil stated also that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and said he would have used the ransom money to buy clothes and phones.

“Investigation also showed that the suspect got to know about kidnapping for ransom when some time ago, his friend was kidnapped in Kano State.

Those who kidnapped his friend were paid ransom before he was released and that was how the suspect learned that money must be paid to set a kidnap victim free,’’ he stated.

Wakil added that police commissioner in the state, Mr Aminu Alhassan, admonished parents and guardians to maintain strict vigilance over their wards and children. (NAN

Nota Bene

Several questions remain unanswered
According to him, the suspect lured the victim into an isolated area and placed a telephone call to her father demanding N150,000 as ransom for the captive’s release.
how careless could a mother be, to have left a 3-year old baby for a stranger to comfortably kidnap? Who leaves a 3 yr old baby without proper observation of the child
Wakil stated also that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and said he would have used the ransom money to buy clothes and phones.
“He called his name, but the suspect kept mute, hung up, swiftly took the girl to her parent’s house where he told the family that he sighted her crying near a football field,’’ SP Wakil stated.
“Investigation also showed that the suspect got to know about kidnapping for ransom when some time ago, his friend was kidnapped in Kano State.

“Those who kidnapped his friend were paid ransom before he was released and that was how the suspect learned that money must be paid to set a kidnap victim free,’’ he stated.
...That is what you get when you treat terrorists and kidnappers with kid gloves. If something serious, like the death sentence, is being given to them, I don't think this kid would have the mind to venture into this disgraceful act.

Our 12 year old here is in JS 2 battling school work , playing games and quarrelling about snacks.

How's this 12 year old engaged in something as heinous as kidnapping ?

He's still redeemable seeing the fear that made him quickly return the baby.

Sometimes but not all the time. Depending on the crime how the crime is committed. In this case, it won't apply

Buhari's and APC government promoted evils from Yahoo, kidnapping, herdsmen, impunity, nepotism, tribal bigotism, religious bias, money laundering, wreckless looting, hook up even Bobrisky and his likes.

What kind of govt is this - Morals are at an all time low.

Nawa!!

North should find a way to fight things like this at its initial stage. Whatever evil the north starts to practice, ends up consuming them.

They copied kidnapping, now north is the headquarters of kidnapping. It's only in the north that hundreds of people can be kidnapped at once.

If the recent oil discovery in north is really true. illegal oil bunkering in Niger Delta will be a childsplay when compared with what will happen in the north if they fail to do the necessary things.

There is no news that ever sound strange to me again in naija. What does a 12 year old need that sum of money for? How did he learn the trade of kidnapping? The Nigeria state have really failed the future generations.
I just believe that the end is nearer than never before.

LordIsaac:

Oh, ok. I thought it extends to 12 years.
In contrast to @Righteousdemon's claim, which in my opinion, paints him as a nescient, a 12-year-old is doli incapax. Hence, you're right. He might not be held liable due to age.

Modified:

I just discovered Nigeria upholds a peculiar doctrine of Doli Incapax in its Section 30 of the Criminal Code. Therefore, in Nigeria, the doctrine is only applicable to kids within 7 years.

Happy Sunday!

Hmm!

U can see why religion is not enough to make a child better. Secular education is a mind changer that can help u in all facets of life.

U cant train children in Almajri school and u expect them to be morally bright.

This is what they all turn out to be.
Tomorrow's bokoharam and bandits combined together.

May God help the north.
I really pity them even when they don't pity their children's future.

Let the government continue to hold kidnapping cases with kid gloves…

Soon enough, when their own aide-de-camps, drivers, and security guards start kidnapping they themselves, to release them after they pay ransome, or even kill them, then they'll understand the damage their nonchalance attitude towards insecurity had done to the fragile country.

12 years old that should still be in Primary School already venturing into kidnapping.

What do you think will happen if this kind of a boy falls into the hands of terrorists?

What 'if' he knows about the kidnapping of his friend?

This is how national threats are made.

Kidnaping in the north is just like internet fraud in the south/east/west… It’s business for easy money just as they see it!
