The Coca-Cola Company, best known as the maker of Coca-Cola, is an American global beverage business founded in 1892. In addition to non-alcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups, the Coca-Cola Company makes, sells, and advertises alcoholic drinks. The company’s stock is traded on the NYSE and is included in the DJIA, S&P 500, and S&P 100 indexes.

Coca-Cola was invented in 1886 by John S. Pemberton (1831-88), an Atlanta pharmacist, at his Pemberton Chemical Company. Frank Robinson, his bookkeeper, picked the name for the drink and scribbled it in the flowing handwriting that became the Coca-Cola logo. Pemberton advertised his drink as a remedy for most common diseases, based on cocaine from the coca leaf and caffeine-rich kola nut extracts; the cocaine was removed from Coca-composition Cola’s in approximately 1903. Pemberton sold his syrup to local soda fountains, and the drink became a huge hit thanks to advertising. By 1891, another Atlanta pharmacist, Asa Griggs Candler (1851-1929), had obtained entire control of the company (for a total monetary investment of $2,300 and the exchange of some property rights), and the following year he founded the Coca-Cola Company. In 1893, the trademark “Coca-Cola” was registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Since 1889, the corporation has run a franchised distribution system. The majority of the company’s output is syrup concentrate, which is subsequently supplied to various bottlers with exclusive territories across the world. Coca-Cola Refreshments, the business’s main bottler in North America, is owned by the corporation.
