G5 Governors To Announce Preferred Presidential Candidate: Wike and Ortom spoke at the Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, during the launch of campaigns for Governor Seyi Makinde's reelection.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his Benue State counterpart, Samuel Ortom, said on Thursday that their Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alliance known as the G5 or the Integrity Group remained united. G5 Governors!

The two governors also stated that the G5 United will soon announce its preferred presidential candidate for Nigeria's February 25 election.

Wike and Ortom spoke at the Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Oyo State's capital, during the launch of campaigns for Governor Seyi Makinde's reelection.

Makinde, Ortom, and Wike are members of the PDP G5, along with Abia's Okezie Ikpeazu and Enugu's Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Wike, Ortom, Ugwuanyi, and Ikpeazu took turns addressing the crowd of PDP supporters, urging them to vote for Makinde, whom they referred to as the "Youth Leader of the G5", for a second term in office.

Wike urged the crowd to vote for the PDP in the state governorship, House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate elections.

"The other one, Seyi, will come to you," he said of the G5's presidential candidate selection.

G5 Governors: A U-Turn on Obi's Endorsement?

Terver Akase, Ortom's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, said in a statement on Tuesday that the governor "strongly recommends Peter Obi to Nigerians" following former President Olusegun Obasanjo's endorsement of the Labour Party's presidential candidate.

However, Ortom dismissed "social media gossip" on Thursday, saying the G5 will inform Nigerians of its plans at the appropriate time.

"We want to assure you that the Integrity Group and the G5 governors are committed members of the PDP in our various states.

He further stated, "We have a challenge with the national leaders of our party because they have failed to deploy the internal resolution mechanism to solve the problems after the convention.

"We are committed to PDP in our various states and at the appropriate time, we are going to let you know where and what to do. "We are united, we are together; don't listen to social media gossip - we are committed to the PDP and all our candidates in our states," Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said.

Taofeek Arapaja, the PDP's Deputy National Chairman in the South-West, and Bayo Ogungbenro, the party's Chairman in Oyo, were among those in attendance.

However, Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, and Iyorchia Ayu, the party's National Chairman, were conspicuously absent from the event on Thursday.
