CATALYTIC CONVERTERS VS FUEL CONSUMPTION: LETS END THE CONFUSION

Do they really reduce fuel consumption or are our mechanics ripping us?

Please this is a general discussion forum and strictly intended for learning and knowledge sharing.

Let's share out thoughts and argue professionally/maturedly

Please see some thoughts from global professionals below:

Thought 1
The catalytic converter opposes exhaust fumes. Removing it will make it easier for your engine to push out the exhaust, thus increasing your power output without increasing fuel consumption. The extra power will increase the efficiency of the engine, so your car will have a little better mileage.

Thought 2
But, while catalytic converters reduce emissions, they also reduce fuel efficiency. The back pressure created by a catalytic converter decreases the fuel thermal efficiency of an engine significantly. A fuel catalyst, on the other hand, both reduces emissions and increases fuel efficiency.

Thought 3:
Catalytic converter has nothing to do with fuel consumption. Its absolutely ridiculous asking an educated man like me to go and ask an uneducated kazeem about catalytic converter.

Fuel combustion process in engine starts and take place from the air intake manifold, air filter, injector, (nozzles) , plugs down to the combustion chamber and after the combustion process the waste products goes down to the catalyst, get filtered of toxic gasses before getting discharged through the exhaust .
SO SINCE ALL THE COMBUSTIONPROCESS HAPPENS AT THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER BEFORE GETTING TO THE CATALYST HOW THEN WILL ABSENCE OF CATALYST CAUSE HIGH FUEL CONSUMPTION as they do tell you? Dont be deceived, the presence of catalytic converter does not save fuel.

Catalytic converter has nothing to do with fuel efficiency but Car efficiency.
In some countries, your car will not pass MOT test without it as your car's emissions will be above scheduled limit.

The only relationship between the catalyst converter and your fuel consumption is only when the catalyst fails, degrades and BLOCKS YIUR EXHAUST SYSTEM

When that happens the fuel efficiency won’t even be your main issue but your engine BLOWING UP due to the resultant back pressure to its exhaust manifold.

you wrong to say "Car Efficueny" it is sole there to reduce toxic fumes

like you said in your last part a car will fail MOT due to failing Emissions which are regulated and monitored by 3 parts the 2 o2 sensors and the catayst converter

the o2 sensor monitors exhaust fumes how rich or lean they are and send data to ECU and ECU adjust the mixing ratio of air to fuel

Hence if you remove the catalytic converter your car will consume more fuel due to the o2 reading more carbon ratio in the fumes and the ECU will try to correct that by changing the mixing ratio

Catalytic converter, DPF and Adblue are all
to do with emissions
