Professors !! May God help out educational system.
.. sadly that's how our 'ivory tower' colleagues see "applied knowledge", my brother.
Now imagine where we'd be as a people if this knowledge is applied only for good.

There is hope for us yet as a nation. Although, cynical as it might paint me, I cannot but wonder what became of the findings by EFCC of many other curruption cases and where all the trillions supposedly recalled disappeared to.

I might be far behind in my update but I don't recall the money EFCC/ICPC recovered been put to any positive use today, if not diverted for fattening other people's already obessed bank accounts, sponsoring elections, campaigns and foreign accounts.

But what has not ceased to surprise me is the relative ease with which these accused VC, Bursar and others will be able to secure bail if given to them, which of course bail is certain. Also the court conspiracy smacks of something like the "big boys money exchanging hands" connections at work making the courts also currupt.

It will be nice to see thieves paraded in public like this (especially all these hypocritic old guards that act like they're saints.

My only worry is for it not to just be political

I felt ashamed for seeing a prof paraded by EFCC. Problem of corruption skyrocketted in our Ivory towers since they started handling elections.

To what end is the investigation and recovery of the stolen money What has such recovered monies profited Nigerian?? Or it is for the news that EFCC is an effective organization Or a Witch hunting exercise? What exactly do we profit from all such stolen common wealth? God only will judge us all. We never hear the conclusion of such charges, that has always being the trend in this country.

No system/government will develop without accountability, we blacks in sub-saharan Africa will design a system and deliberately include loopholes so that they can never be accountable...just give an African money in this region come back after 1year and ask how he spent the money he/she immediately gets angry...we just don't like it it's innate...moral hazard everywhere, a professor for that matter, see NNPC for example with this fuel scarcity salaries, bonuses, even estacode will be paid to staff for almost doing nothing..all our smartness nah to bypass system left, right and center .
tmtech:

I still blame the government.
In the western world , they have a very strict law and punishment for tax evaders. If such laws are not in place , people will definitely evade paying taxes.

No human is good by default. The government must lead by example.
This crooked ex VC will get at most a slap on the wrist.
The government must hold us all to account when when commit crimes, that is the only way to tame corruption.

People keep complaining about the government as if they are the only corrupt people in the country.

The average Nigerian citizen is extremely corrupt. The society is completely rotten from top to bottom.

Corruption pervades everywhere - in schools, offices, churches and places of religious worship etc.

I agree with you totally. However in this case, a large large part of the blame still goes to the government. The VC and bursar were appointed by the university governing council. The members of the council are predominantly government appointees. The process of selecting VCs are never transparent and fair. The council members appointed by government are usually corrupt too. This Nigeria corruption problem is very complex. Only a miracle can get us out.
You won't believe the kind of corrupt practices that are carried out by VCs and bursars in Nigerian public universities. Of course, what do you expect from people appointed through a corrupt process.
