Commercial banks can accept them from citizens but they will only credit accounts and not pay cash. And the banks can redeem them from Central Bank. A very good move from the CBN.

This what you get when you mix politics with institutional govt job. Emefiele is a complete failure. I hope the next president fires him immediately. He has no business running any govt parastatal. Why didn't they do the exchange since a year ago. Well I guess he is following a script. Why give people 3 months to change currency when you can do it within a space of 1 year or even more. He is very incompetent. This is not the first time Nigeria is changing money.

It will be twice stressful to deposit at CBN, when their workers all feel fly, who go accept the deposit? Bank is the easiest place to deposit once the deadline with large number of people having deposited, anyone at CBN na wetin you see take am.

Today, i was at the Gtb branch on Oba Akran and there were irate customers barking at the bank workers, holding them accountable for the botched redesign policy. The bankers kept a blank polite face which simply infuriated the customers the more. The customers did not realize that it's down to professional training

A lone voice now said rather quietly that its the CBN to blame and not them. They are just scapegoats.

The CBN governor was being very economical with the truth. Rumor had it that Buhari wanted a currency redesign when he assumed office in 2015 but Emefiele was dead against it. He was already incensed at Buhari's interference in bank matters such as fixing the exchange rate which has been the primary reason the economy has been in tatters since 2015

Buhari wanted a redesign naira early on to make worthless the looted cash of politicians stored at home. Buhari redesigned the Naira in circa 1984 for that purpose. I remembered period clearly. The rumor was most likely true

Had Emefiele ever wanted to redesign the currency any time during Buhari's term in office, the president would have definitely given him the goahead.
