It's definitely number 2 because the murder weapon (his cutlery-knife) is at the crime scene. In other words, he was in a hurry to avoid suspicion. Unknowingly, he left it there and rushed back. He won't finish the meal before leaving in few minutes because people will start starring at him eating without cutlery.
