The CBN has already absorbed over 1 trillion of the old notes. So the problem now is that there are no notes, both old and new. Hence, shifting the deadline for the spending of old notes does not solve the cash scarcity issue. I don't understand why some governors are fighting for extension instead of telling the CBN to make the new notes more available.
It's obvious they just want the old notes to still be valid by election day, so that vote sellers would not reject the notes they have stacked up in their homes.
However, it seems the CBN are short of new notes and they can't print it within days, hence they have no choice than recirculate the old notes, the failure is from them.

I don't think CBN made a mistake. They also know some of these corrupt politicians also have enough funds in the bank's to bribe multidimensionally poor.Nigerians.

It's really funny how gullible we are in this part of the world. We really don't get it at all... Personally I see this naira redesign and the artificially induced cash scarcity as a massive plot of the ruling party led government to put opposing parties in a disadvantage in terms of vote buying while at the same time increasing their own advantage.
There's no way CBN could have absorbed trillions of old notes without printing considerable amount of new notes to meet their so called new cash policy. The question we should be asking is: where are the new notes? Your guess is as good as mine as to who are in possession of the new naira notes that's been printed so far. I bet you that as election commences, these new notes will surface. They will be used to buy your votes. This current scarcity of cash we are experiencing now is all intended to make cash more desirable to voters.
I see voters being easily swayed into selling their votes for cash.
