warrior101: i already corrected myself. Tooro is calm, not necessarily peace. killuminati: I no be yoruba boy but I know say...'Ifokan'bale' means 'peace of mind'. So if 'peace of mind' is 'ifokan'bale', the 'ifokan' should be 'peace'. ifokan is state of mind. |

But peace in general . . . .i.e world peace. . . . then it's alaafia. I.e Mo wa ni alaafia. . . .I'm in peace. Alaafia la wa. . . . we're in peace or wellbeing |

Peace in Fulfulde (Fulani language) is "jam" Jam tun or Jam tan (peace only or only peace). "A walli jam?" - Did you spend the night in peace? technically it means good morning in Fulfulde. "Noy bade ma?" - "How is your family?" you respond "jam sago" "they are well", or "they are living peacefully" |

Fulaman198: Peace in Fulfulde (Fulani language) is "jam" You forgot to add noy nagge? Which means how is your cattle isn't that your favorite alaraini? |
Re: The Meaning Of Peace In The Different Nigerian Languages by WHees(m): 9:44pm On Nov 02, 2013 |
@fulaman.. Jam is lafiya in hausa but I think lafiya is not the right word for peace, don't you think "aminci" is the right word? Just asking |
Re: The Meaning Of Peace In The Different Nigerian Languages by Fulaman198(m): 5:30am On Nov 03, 2013 |
WHξξ∟s: Noy nagge ma? would be the proper way of asking how are your cattle |
Re: The Meaning Of Peace In The Different Nigerian Languages by Fulaman198(m): 5:35am On Nov 03, 2013 |
WHξξ∟s: Either of those could be used, aminci probably the better one of the two because Lafiya means good typically which in fulfulde would be woodi. |

Yoruba_Omoge:Ìrẹ̀ or ìrẹ̀lẹ̀ can also mean peace. Ìfarabalẹ̀ can also be used as already mentioned when talking about a state of mind. Peaceful - onírẹ̀lẹ̀ (person), jẹ́jẹ́ etc. Àlàáfíà is not an original Yoruba word, and it doesn't really mean peace. It's better to avoid the word. |

Mo ni ifokanbale I have peace Mo ni alaafia I have peace Ilu tooro The town is peaceful. Ifokanbale literally means my heart is resting on the ground. It is the Yoruba word for peace. It can be used for individuals and even a community. Alaafia is also used. It is now part of Yoruba vocab but it obviously is not an original Yoruba word. Probably Arabic or Hausa. The Yoruba is ifokanbale |

[quote author=NegroNtns post=14800970] lol! thank you but google cannot teach me my tongue. yoruba has no function for health. we talk about balance....wellbeing! alafia - wellbeing ayesi - honor ibukun - blessing ere - success ola - prosperity ire - peace [Peace is Alafia not ire, ire means goodness or blessing like ire akaari. Jesus is refered to the Prince of peace and the yoruba version calls Him Omoba alade alafia. Peace can also be tooro or bale as in fiokan bale] |
